September 8, 2009 Woodward Academy Donates Alley Loo To African Schools
Book Written By Newnan Author C. E. Walz
With so much disgusting stuff in the news it is a pleasure to report on some good news for a change. Newnan author C. E. Walz, who has been in the news lately concerning her recently published award winning book Alley Loo, has announced that her employer, Woodward Academy in College Park, is donating copies of her book to schools in Africa which it has been assisting for some time. Here is the article which Walz wrote about this great news, which can be found on her website, www.cewalz.com.
Alley Loo Goes to Africa I've been a teacher at Woodward Academy for many years. Founded in 1900 as Georgia Military Academy, Woodward is the oldest private school in Atlanta, Georgia. Today it is the largest independent school in the continental United States. Woodward has always been an advocate of community service. During the course of each school year, students are involved in many community service projects including one of our largest projects, Terranova School in Mazabuka, Zambia. Terranova School is a dream come true for coffee farmers Colin and Alison Street. To help improve the lives of their employees and their children, the Streets built a school on their Zambian coffee plantation that was free to anyone who wished to attend. Each year since 2001, they have added grades, teachers, and buildings until now, a school that was originally designed to teach 200 children, serves 380! Woodward Academy has adopted Terranova School as a sister school, and in the past several years, has provided this Zambian school with books, clothing, teaching materials, computers, manpower for building projects, and even vision tests. Thanks to George Dietz, Woodward Academy science teacher and assistant principal, Terranova School library received copies of ALLEY LOO this past summer! |

All published Coweta County authors have been invited to bring their books for an autograph party to the annual Powers Crossroads Festival over the Labor Day weekend. One of the authors who will be present is Holly Moulder from Sharpsburg, who taught elementary school for twenty-one years and who is now devoting her time to writing and promoting her books, which are well written stories for children which are helpful in introducing them to history.
Moulder won awards while she was an instructor -- she was twice named Teacher Of The Year; and she is now winning awards for her books. Her first one (published in 2007), Eyes Of The Calusa, has the distinction of being the first book of fiction ever written about the Calusa Indian Tribe and was the winner of the Silver Medal In Young Adult Fiction presented by the Florida Publishers Association. Her second book (published in 2008) was a 2009 Eric Hoffer Award Finalist and a Readers Views Readers Choice Awards Finalist. Her books have had reviews published in various media including the Southside Arts Agenda, an electronic newsletter which covers the burgeoning arts scene on the Southside of Atlanta. Holly Moulder is a member of the Florida Publishers Association and of the Coweta Writers Group.
