Grantville Gospel Sing For May To Be Held in Moreland

Godin Family To Perform Under The Trees at Emmanuel Baptist Church

The monthly Grantville Southern Country Gospel Music Concerts which are customarily held in Grantville's renovated railroad freight depot have recently been performed at other venues. The next one will be held on Saturday May 17 at 6 PM under the trees at the Emmanuel Baptist Church at 336 Cline Road in Moreland, the town directly north of Grantville. An out-of-doors venue is especially appropriate for the Southern Country Gospel Music genre, and the Grantville Sings which have been held at under-the-trees locations have been enjoyed by both the audiences and the musicians.

The performers at the May Sing will be the Godin family, who live near Valley, Alabama. The Godin family is quite interesting: Dan and Karen Godin have TWELVE -- Yes, TWELVE -- children, and all those old enough are among the performers. They mostly play on a variety of stringed instruments, including a very unusual super-narrow one called a Thrumstick. And Karen often plays a super-large bass fiddle that is taller than she is. Karen also entertains the audience by relating interesting anecdotes about God's special provisions for their needs and humorous situations which they have encountered as a family with 12 kids, such as trying to check into a motel.

Information on Emmanuel Baptist Church is available at 770-253-6546 or 706-302-5311, and information about the Grantville Sings is available from their organizer Roy Smith at 770-251-5621 or depotsinging@yahoo.com,

GRAND OPENING CONCERT FOR GREENVILLE STREET PARK
 'THE WRIGHTS' IN CONCERT
APRIL 26, SATURDAY NIGHT

For April 26, this Saturday evening, for the grand opening of Greenville Street Park will be a free concert featuring the country music's husband and wife duo, the Wrights. The concert will start at 7 P.M.
In 2005 with the release of their debut album Down This Road, on ACR/RCA, The Wrights joined an elite class of critically acclaimed artists that represent the best of what music city has to offer. Now, with their upcoming EP, The Wrights on independent label ACR they hope to build upon the success of the first release.
The husband and wife duo have worked, lived and breathed for music since the moment they met nearly ten years ago when Adam joined Shannon on stage at a gig in Atlanta . They had an undeniable connection and their musical collaboration took root immediately, both of them drawn to timeless sounds and artists – Willie, Hank, Aretha, Dylan. The easy harmony was impossible to ignore.
" Greenville Street Park is truly a fabulous park for the City of Newnan . The City wanted to bring a first class act to the park and The Wrights just fit the bill. They are hometown favorites with national acclaim and we are excited to bring this kind of music act to the public and as our opening concert for the park," said Gina Snider, the City's Public Information Officer.

After a little more than 12 months of construction activity, the much anticipated Greenville Street Park is almost complete and ready to open to the public. The Greenville Street Park is a two acre urban park nestled between Greenville Street ,  LaGrange Street , and Salbide Avenue and strategically placed on the edge of the historic Greenville/LaGrange residential neighborhood, its commercial district, and is within walking distance of historic downtown Newnan.  The urban type "hardscapes" park was designed as a first class gathering place for downtown patrons, lunch time crowds, afternoon and evening musical concerts, and other festive events.

The park features a 25 column colonnaded entrance, a terraced lawn area and stage that serves as a small amphitheatre, a water fountain, brick plazas, a covered pavilion, and plenty of tables and chairs. Meandering paths, secluded benches, and extensive landscaping compose the balance of the new park. The Greenville Street Park will also feature two sculptures, one by prominent Atlanta artist, Martin Dawe, and the other by local renowned artist, Carol Harless. Ms. Harless's sculpture is not scheduled to be completed and installed until late summer.

" Greenville Street Park is a first class recreational facility. We look forward to all the gatherings and events that will take place here. I would like to personally invite the citizens of Newnan to join us a part of this grand opening ceremony," said Mike Furbush , the City's Landscape Architect.

Slow Exposures Photographic Art Exhibition Issues Call For Entries

It would take some time to list all the Cowetans who have won prizes during the past five years at the annual Slow Exposures Photographic Art Exhibition.  And Slow Exposures has excellent jurors and very high standards for even having an entry accepted, especially as the word has gotten out and submissions are coming in from all over the USA. Slow Exposures have also highly honored a particular Coweta photographer, Paul Conlan of Newnan, by placing him on their board and putting him in charge of their website last year.  Conlan has recently issued the Call For Entries for the 2008 Slow Exposures, which reads, verbatim, as follows:

SlowExposures 2008

A Juried Photo Exhibition Celebrating the History and Character of the Rural South
Weekends, September 19th through September 28th
Pike County, Georgia

Deadline for Submissions is June 15, 2008

"SlowExposures," the nationally recognized photography exhibition that underscores the diversity and complexity of the rural South, is currently inviting fine art photographers to apply to this year's sixth annual event by submitting their photos taken in the "Southeast" and/or "West Central Georgia " to a distinguished panel of professional photo jurors by Sunday, June 15th.

Jurors Jamie Allen (George Eastman House, Rochester , NY ) and Mike Smith ( East Tennessee State University , Johnson City , TN ) will choose a limited number of images from the scores of images that are submitted by mid-June. These will later be showcased in the annual exhibition that opens on Friday, September 19 for two weekends in the picturesque town of Concord , Georgia, in bucolic Pike County , an hour's drive from the Atlanta airport.

"SlowExposures 2008" features two categories: "Photographs of the Southeast" can include images taken anywhere in the Southeastern United States . "Photographs of West Central Georgia" can include images taken anywhere in Bibb, Coweta, Crawford, Harris, Heard, Lamar, Meriwether, Monroe, Muscogee, Spalding, Talbot, Taylor, Troup and Upson Counties in addition to Pike County, home of "SlowExposures."

The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2008. Photographers may enter up to four images in each category for a nonrefundable fee of $30 per category with checks written to the Pike Historic Preservation, beneficiary of SlowExposures. Final winners will share up to $2,000 in awards at the September show.

The Call for Entries form can be viewed and downloaded from the "Call for Entries" page at the SlowExposures website (www.slowexposures.org) , or directly by clicking on the following link: http://www.enercomusa.com/pdf/slowexposures2008callforentries.pdf.  Printed copies of the "Call for Entries" applications may be picked up at A Novel Experience Bookstore or Pike County Chamber of Commerce on the Square in Zebulon, or at the Concord Café in Concord .
