85 South Out & About Begins Fourth Year

Magazine Gives Good Coverage of the Coweta Arts Scene

85 South Out & About, a monthly magazine in newspaper format, has just begun its fourth year of covering significant events in the counties located along Interstate 85 as it proceeds south from Atlanta. Good coverage of the Coweta arts scene is provided in the "About Art" section as well as in the "What's Happening" calendar near the back of the magazine. And each issue contains a reprint of one of the newspaper columns written by Lewis Grizzard, who was born and raised in the Coweta city of Moreland, which honors him by a museum there.

The "About Art" section does not just cover art in the narrow sense of the visual arts, but also the performing arts and the literary arts. The current issue (January 2008) provides a good illustrative example of this. Concerning the visual arts, there is information about the Ten Year Retrospective of former East Coweta High School art teacher Richard Scott Hill and the first Coweta show by artist Jane Whitehurst, who recently moved to Senoia. Concerning the performing arts, there is information about the Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein show coming up at the Legacy Theatre owned by Mark and Bethany Smith of Newnan. And in the Literary Arts there is an item about the Southern Writers Conference to be held in Newnan sponsored by the etreasures publishing company owned by Newnanite Vickie Kennedy.

85 South Out & About is available free of charge at various locations including stores and libraries. Information on this magazine is available on its website www.homestead.com/85south.
