The first four homes comprise a walking tour within a block or two of the museum. INFO ON HOME #1: GIBSON-STARR HOME AT 29 TEMPLE AVE. First on the tour, directly across from the museum, is the Gibson-Starr-Sides home at 29 Temple Avenue. Neo-classical features of this charming home include Ionic columns which form a Greek-style portico, a symmetrical facade, and a Palladian-style attic window. Elements of the Victorian style are evidenced in the home's window configuration, interior columns, tiled mantel, and asymmetrical interior layout. The blending of these distinctive styles, know as Neo-classical Revival, was popularized at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Of special note is the extensive Dickens village collection on permanent display in the library.. INFO ON HOME #2: ARNALL-MANN HOME AT 75 JACKSON ST. A short stroll to Jackson and Clark Streets will take you to the Arnall-Mann home, now headquarters to Welden Financial Services. This Neo-classical brick structure features a columned, semi-circular portico surmounted by a galleried balcony, which is accessed by French doors. This elegant home, designed by Atlanta architect R. Kennon Perry, was built by Alton Wynn Arnall about 1924. Its interior features ornate millwork by R. D. Cole and a gracefully curved staircase. The elevated site was chosen to command an excellent view of the approach to the City of Newnan. INFO ON HOME #3: FARMER-DAVIS HOME AT 70 JACKSON ST. Just across Clark Street, at 70 Jackson, is the home of Glenda Davis. Built in 1885 in the Southern Vernacular style by Millard Farmer, Sr., this historic home retains many of its original features, including the striking front door with oval beveled glass, the unusual fireplace covers, mantels, and pocket doors. Among the many antiques are some pieces handcrafted of heart pine from Ms Davis' grandfather's barbershop in North Carolina. Other pieces of special interest are the custom-built kitchen island and deacon's bench Ms. Davis had made from old pieces of heart pine found stored under the house. INFO ON HOME #4: CANTWELL HOME AT 70 JACKSON ST. Last on the walking tour is the Federal- style Cantwell home at 55 Jackson Street. Built in 2002 as an infill house, its traditional design makes a pleasantly congruent addition to this historic neighborhood. The imposing facade features a double front door flanked by four two-story Ionic columns and surmounted by a central balcony. Open, airy rooms, tastefully furnished, and an extended rear deck make this stylish and comfortable town home a must-see. INFO ON HOME #5: JONES-PAULK HOME AT 701 W. HWY. 16 You'll want to retrieve your car for the final home on the tour. Just a few miles from town is the charming country home at 701 W. Highway 16 owned by Susan and John Paulk. Built around 1930, this home features a wide central hallway, 12 foot ceilings, and original mantels. A cozy front porch sports a collection of rocking chairs and a three window dormer projects from the steeply raked roof. The Paulks have enclosed the rear porch for a family room and modernized the kitchen. There is also a detached guest house with kitchenette and full bath.
