We are looking to cast 10-14 actors, age range is 16 and up. We are looking for 5-7 males and 5-7 females. Actors will be asked to do a cold reading from the script along with a song. The song will be taught and performed during the audition. Lucky Stiff is the story of Harry, who must take his dead Uncle Anthony on one last trip to Monte Carlo in order to inherit six million dollars. The members of the Coweta Writers Group were recently informed that there are now so many published book authors in Coweta that we will probably soon see the formation of special groups of writers. They were also informed that two Coweta Writers Group member -- Swanee Ballman and Linda Jennings -- had already formulated a plan to establish an organization for christian writers. The prelimary meeting for this new group was held earlier this month and the next meeting, which will be the first official one, will be held on Thursday. Here is the annoncement which had just been released by Linda Jennings:

Coweta actor Joey Waldrop will be one of the performers in the Gallery Players new Murder Mystery Improv Show, which will debut in March. The Gallery Players are the improvisation troupe of the Fayette-based Offshoot Productions.

Gallery Players Troupe Offers a New Murder Mystery Improv Show
Offshoot Productions' Gallery Players improvisation troupe has spent the past year developing an energetic ensemble and delighting audiences in a wildly comic exploration of life and relationships. Now the troupe is offering a twist on the popular murder mystery. In Murder Off the Cuff, the improv performers incorporate audience suggestions as to murder weapons, motivations, conspirator interaction, clue searching and much more. In this evening of scenes, the actors may portray famous detectives, plot a crime, find ingenious ways of committing murder, or solve a mystery, all the while using the hilarious improvisation approaches that have created a loyal following.
The first performance in this evening of scenes with a murder mystery theme takes place on Friday, March 6, at 8:00 p.m. at It's a Grind coffee house, 1240 Hwy 54 West, across from Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville. The enticing aromas, delicious desserts and cozy seating are certain to add to the audience's enjoyment.
Tickets, which are $10 each, may be picked up in person at It's a Grind or purchased online with a credit card at www.offshoot.org.

This is the third time that Offshoot Productions, a 15-year-old professional theatre company, has presented an evening of entertainment at It's a Grind. Last November, the scripted show Rehearsal for Murder played to a standing room only crowd there, and the Gallery Players performed a comedy show in December.
Members of the Gallery Players include Elizabeth Clausen, Andy Fleming, Kristi Israel, Betty Mitchell, Paige Steadman and Joey Waldrop. Usually four or five of the six actors, along with director Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D., perform at a venue. In addition to presenting public performances such as this one at It's a Grind, the company performs at corporate functions, private parties and community events.

Roy Smith has announced that there will be no Gospel Sing in the Grantville Railroad Freight Depot for the month of February, as originally planned. The schedule for 2009 will begin with the Sing to be held on March 28 beginning at 7:00 PM.
There will be two groups in concert that evening: The Parrish Family from Bainbridge, GA and Happy Harmony from Griffin, GA. As always there is no admission charge and the atmosphere is informal like a picnic and refreshments will be served. And there will be an opportunity to meet the musicians afterward.

The word has just gone out about the Second Annual Gala Event to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Newnan. The event will feature a movies motif, including the sale of Oscar Posters and autographed pictures and photos, with the participants treated as though they are movie stars. An indication that this may be continuing this year was provided today when the Cultural Arts Committee of Senoia released the following information about a special Earth Day event they are planning called "The Art of Green": February 10, 2009 For Immediate Release "Senoia Goes Green" Green isn't just the color of Spring in Coweta County; it's also the theme of a new arts event sponsored by the Cultural Arts Committee of Senoia's Downtown Development Authority. On Saturday, April 25th from 10 to 6, Historic Downtown Senoia will celebrate Earth Day with a sidewalk art show featuring artists who work with recycled materials. Arts Clayton has made great contributions to the Southside Scene through its various art shows and exhibits. For the past several years some of the finest visual arts works in the State of Georgia have been exhibited at the Flint Art Gallery in the showroom and workrooms of Panoply Interior Design and Home Decor in downtown Newnan. In its newsletter for February Panoply announced that the newest member of its design team, Amanda Campbell, will also serve as the Flint Art Gallery Manager.
Campbell graduated in December of 2008 from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a concentration in Interior Design. In addition to managing the Flint Gallery, Campbell will also be updating its website.
The newsletter also announced that it has invited two artists to set up their studios in house. These resident artists are Craig MacMillan, a nationally known artist, and Georgie Dunn, a rising star in the art world. Their latest project was the original artworks installed into the 1825 Summit Building and Delta Community Credit Union Atrium on Highway 34 East in Newnan, which is part of a project of Panoply. There is an article about MacMillan in the current issue of The Newnan-Coweta Magazine.

Dianne Olsen, the Publicity Director of the Newnan Theatre has just released the following information concerning various personnel changes, the highlight of which consists in information about the new Artistic Director Darren Matthews, whose photograph is shown below: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Newnan Community Theatre Company Contact: Dianne Olsen 770-683-6282 nctc@numail.org NCTC Names New Artistic Director In its 30-plus years of providing live entertainment to downtown Newnan, the Newnan Community Theatre Company struggled in 2008, however, they are coming back strong in 2009. Its season-opener, M*A*S*H, played to sold-out audiences and they have over 130 season-ticket holders. The Board of Directors no longer manages the day-to-day operations of the theatre. The Board handles oversight and policy, while a Theatre Operations Committee handles theatre management. Laurel Alford, most recently the theatre's artistic director, will be taking over the newly-created position of Director of Youth Activities, announced Rick Olsen, NCTC's Managing Director. "Laurel oversees the theatre's wildly successful KidsCamp and this will allow her to focus on the camp and other youth programs," Olsen said. Alford also heads XTras!, a free Tuesday-evening group for teenagers to learn more about acting, directing, and producing shows. Next up for Alford will be directing Winter KidsCamp. This will be held the week of February 16th, during winter break for Coweta County schools. That will be followed by a Spring KidsCamp in April. She will then direct the next children's production, The Jungle Book. That show will be performed in April with a cast of children only. Taking over as Artistic Director, as of February 1st, will be Darren Mathews. Mathews discovered NCTC when he auditioned for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Mathews was born in Stone Mountain and raised in Peachtree City. He graduated from the University of Kentucky. His first theatre experience was with the Studio Players of Lexington, one of the oldest community theaters in Kentucky. He played the role of Nick Pym in The Sister Rosensweig. After this small part, he became very involved with the theater community at college. He took classes on writing, acting, and directing, with an emphasis on experimental theater. He performed in Picasso at the Lapin Agile, True West, Perfect Wedding, Tempest, and Richard Cory along with multiple smaller plays. He also worked a professional dinner theater show, Happy B-day, Wanda June with a group of students. He also was Assistant Director for the Donavan's Reader, a senior citizen reading theater group. He moved to Newnan in 2006. Since his Cuckoo's Nest audition, he has been a regular volunteer at NCTC. He acted in Wait Until Dark and M*A*S*H and was the stage manager for The Odd Couple. Mathews started NCTC's very popular improvisational comedy troupe, N.I.T.W.I.T.S., and is currently heading a writing workshop at the theatre for playwriting and scriptwriting. Rick Olsen will continue to head the Theatre Operations Committee as Managing Director. When the Theatre Operating Committee was created, the position of President was dissolved. Rounding out this committee is Mike Patterson as Technical Director, John Abbey as Financial Advisor, Sam Gentry as House Manager, and Dianne Olsen as Director of Marketing and Publicity. The Theatre Operations Committee is overseen by the Board of Directors. Caroline Abbey has been re-elected as the Board Chairman. Serving as Vice Chairman is John Thrasher. New to the board this year is Marlene Rhodes as Secretary and Andy Sharp as Treasurer. Also serving on the board is Gary Hyde, Ann Lynn Whiteside and Rick Olsen. The arts community in Coweta County has become known not only for creativity in its arts works, but also for its creativity in other pertinent matters, such as the special arrangement which the Newnan-Coweta Art Association worked out with the Espresso Lane Coffee House whereby its copious wall space has been put to good use as the site for the display of themed exhbits by NCAA artists.
The original month-long exhibits was changed late last year to exhibits lasting around 6 or 7 weeks. The next such exhibit will focus on the subject of "Old Cars". Founding Meeting To Be Held On February 7
At the dawning of the twenty-first century the number of books published by Coweta's authors suddenly took off and has now climbed to the rate of one book per month for the past three years!! Since a significantly large number of these writers are christians, a plan was recently developed to form an organization for Coweta's christian writers.
A meeting will be held for this purpose on Saturday February 7 at 9:00 AM at the Coweta Community Church, located at 310 Millard Farmer Industrial Boulevard in Newnan. Christian authors with published (or soon-to-be published) works that are family-friendly are welcome. This meeting will be chaired by Linda Jennings, the author of Life Within The Veil.

Schultz 770-583-3258 January 20, 2009 Ken Adams Publishes Conversations About Disciple Making Although there have been many books written about what the Christian is supposed to be like after he becomes a disciple of Christ, few have been written about the actual methodology to be employed to produce the result. A new book has recently been written by a Coweta County pastor, Ken Adams, which sets forth this method: each disciple makes other disciples through small groups which last until the others have grown into disciples who, then, in turn, each establish their own small disciple-making groups, and so forth. Adams has been the pastor of the Crossroads Church near Newnan for over 20 years. The publisher is Swanee Ballman who moved her Jawbone Publishing Company to Newnan when she and her husband built a house here about a year ago. Adams is one of three Coweta authors whose books her company published in 2008. Info about the company is available on www.jawbonepublishing.com. This is Adams' first book, making him one of Coweta County's newest authors and the most recent person to join the Coweta Writers Group. Adams is one of the latest examples of a trend which began about six years ago when a number of Cowetans stopped dreaming about becoming an author and went forth and actually became one. The result is that during the past three years (2006-2008) there have been a total of forty books published by Coweta county authors, which is an average of slightly more than one book per month. |

The play was written by David Auburn. Proof is the story of a woman struggling with mathematical genius and mental illness. There are roles for four characters - two adult males and two adult females. Auditions will be held at 7 pm on February 9 and 10 at the theatre. You don't have to attend both audition evenings, just one or the other. The play is being directed by Jeff Allen. Proof will be performed in the black box on March 27, 28, 29 and April 2, 3, and 4. This show is not part of the theatre's 2009 Season, but is a special event. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (55 and up), $12 for students, and $10 for children (10 and under). The Newnan Theatre's Publicity Director tells us what they are doing now: NITWITS BACK AGAIN Whose Line Is It Anyway? is an improvisational sketch-comedy show hosted by Drew Carey. Newnan has its own version of the show and audiences have been enjoying the interaction and foolishness, not knowing what is going to happen each evening. These performers, called the N.I.T.W.I.T.S. Romantic Fools consists of 12 two-character comedies examining love, lust, dating and romance. From dating a caveman to the frustrations of having a perfect mate, you will love this funny show as you celebrate Valentine's Day. The cast includes two married couples - Caroline Carr and Tom Grandpre and Spencer and Sarah Jordan. There will be only two performances - February 13 and February 14. At first the company only published nearby authors. When it went national (and international) a few years ago the number of books published began to climb until finally Kennedy could no longer do it herself. (Fayette County, Georgia) January 16, 2009 Nature, Undisturbed; a juried photography exhibition to benefit Southern Conservation Trust announces Greg Newington and Thomas Swanston as jurors.
Greg Newington (www.newingtonphotography.com) has worked as a photographer for newspaper and publishing companies in Australia and The Middle East for over 38 years. Greg's work has appeared in more than 300 publications worldwide. Greg has won a variety of awards during his photographic career including first prize in 1988 in The Australian Press Photographer of the Year awards. Greg was head of photography for Motivate Publishing in The United Arab Emirates. This group includes "Hello" Magazine, "Open Skies," and "Emirates Woman." In April of 2008, Greg opened his studio in Serenbe. Currently Greg freelances in the US and Australia.
Artists Thomas Swanston and Gail Foster opened StudioSwan in Serenbe in 2006. Thomas has lived and worked in rural Georgia for the past 25 years. He received a MFA from the Parsons School of Design in New York in 1980. Thomas' art is part of many public and private collections including Disney, Ritz Carlton, Suntrust, and both the Goizueta School of Business and the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. His art has also been seen in a variety of publications including "Veranda" and "Domino" magazines. About Nature, Undisturbed – This juried photography exhibition will benefit Southern Conservation Trust. The show is in its inaugural year. The show is open to any adult photographer, professional or hobbyist. There are two categories; first is open to any nature image taken at any location and the second is any nature image taken at a land trust location. Southern Conservation Trust manages Line Creek Nature Area and Flat Creek Nature Area in Peachtree City and owns and manages Sam's Lake Bird Sanctuary in Fayette County. Donna Rosser, local photographer and founder of the Fayette Photo Club; Abby Jordan, Executive Director, Southern Conservation Trust; and Greg Blair, owner of The Dogwood Gallery and Framer are working together on this exhibit.
