Martin Pate's "Windwalker": Cover Art of arts & expressions
The works of Coweta artist Martin Pate have graced many different venues and have received various forms of recognition. His most recent honor was the selection of his "Windwalker" painting as the cover art for the Winter Season 2007 - 2008 issue of the Southern Arc magazine arts & expressions. The legend under Pate's painting indicates that it is now being displayed at the recently established Dogwood Gallery in Tyrone.
This issue of a & e also includes an article about the Dogwood Gallery on pages 6 through 8, which shows another painting by Pate, "Portrait of Salem". This same article also shows paintings of two other Coweta artists: "Three Hills In Spring 2007" by David Boyd, Jr. and "Sunflower" by Renae Barton, who recently established the Renae Barton Gallery inside the Shops of Beard and Co. at 20 Jefferson Street in Newnan. And on the list of artists whose works are displayed in the Dogwood Gallery we see the name of Richard Scott Hill, who recently retired (after many years of faithful service) as the Chairman of the Art Department at the East Coweta High School and as the Head of the Georgia High Photography organization, which encouraged a number of Coweta students to achieve excellence in the photographic arts.
Other Coweta arts scene events are covered in this issue. On page 20 are found some brief notes about the latest plays scheduled at the Legacy Theatre, which is owned and directed by Mark and Bethany Smith of Newnan. On page 13 are the November and December offerings of the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County, which include two photography exhibits, a Masterworks Choral Concert, and a performance of "The Nutcracker". It has become a tradition for this famous holiday classic of Tchaikovsky's to be performed there by the Georgia Youth Ballet. A more detailed description of this performance and of the Georgia Youth Ballet is found on page 22.
