CHINESE YOUTH ORCHESTRA CONCERT POSTPONED UNTIL NEXT SUMMER

Schultz 770-583-3258   July 31, 2009   Southern Country Gospel Music at Grantville Depot on August 22   Second Coming, New Horizons, and The Parrish Family In Concert        By now the word has gotten out that one of the best places around here to listen to Southern Country Gospel music is the renovated Railroad Freight Depot on Main Street in the rural town of Grantville, Georgia.  And it is only by attending one of these monthly concerts that one can really appreciate the appropriateness of the ambience.        Roy Smith, the organizer of these concerts, has announced the details of the next one, which will be held on Saturday August 22 beginning at 7:00 PM.  The three groups performing are the Second Coming from Griffin, GA; New Horizons from Thomaston.. Schultz 770-583-3258   July 28, 2009   MS Writer Katie L. Daniels Moves To Grantville        Katie L. Daniels has been a prolific writer throughout her long life.  At the turn of the century she began writing novels:  five have been published and two will be published next year.  She recently moved from Mississippi (where she has lived for many years) to Grantville, which is located in Coweta County, whose authors are currently having books published at the rate of one per month.       Daniel's first two novels -- The Starkville Brand (2001) and Perfect Town (2002) -- are general fiction works.  In 2003 she published Below, the first volume of a fantasy trilogy.  The second volume, Quigley's Prophecy, was published in 2007, and the third, Young Sharks, will probably be published next year or perhaps very late this year.  Daniel's has also written two romance novels:  The Farmer and The Businesswoman, published in 2007, and William's Promise, which is still in manuscript.        Daniels was actively involved in the local writers group in Port Gibson, MS, and is planning on doing the same in the Coweta Writers Group, which she joined a few days ago. Newnan Community Theatre Company (NCTC) proudly presents William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" the next two weekends – July 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26.  Show times are 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and 2:30 on Sunday. Probably composed in 1595 or 1596, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is one of Shakespeare's early comedies but can be distinguished from his other works in this group by describing it specifically as the Bard's original wedding play. Most scholars believe that Shakespeare wrote "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as a light entertainment to accompany a marriage celebration; and while the identity of the historical couple for whom it was meant has never been conclusively established, there is good textual and background evidence available to support this claim. At the same time, unlike the vast majority of his works (including all of his comedies), in concocting this story Shakespeare did not rely directly upon existing plays, narrative poetry, historical chronicles or any other primary source materials, making it a truly original piece. Most critics agree that if a youthful Shakespeare was not at his best in this play, he certainly enjoyed himself in writing it. The main plot involves two sets of couples – Hermia and Lysander (Taylor Schaepe and Lenton Lees) and Helena and Demetrius (Samantha Johnson and Andre Bluehs).  Their romantic cross-purposes are complicated further by their entrance into the play's fairyland woods.  Here, the the King and Queen of the Fairies (Dave Dorrell and Lisa Boyd) preside and the impish folk character of Puck (Jessica Hill) plies his trade.  Bottom (Chaz Ferguson) and his friends stumble upon the King and Queen, as they have entered the woods to rehearse a play. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" contains some wonderfully lyrical expressions of lighter Shakespearean themes, most notably those of love, dreams, and the stuff of both, the creative imagination itself.   The play features three interlocking plots connected by a wedding celebration, and set simultaneously in the woodland and in the realm of Fairyland, under the light of the moon. Schultz 770-583-3258   July 1, 2009   Newnan Theatre Announces Auditions For Tom Sawywer Play        Newnan Theatre's Publicity Director Dianne Olsen has released the following announcement:   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Newnan Community Theatre Company Contact:  Dianne Olsen, 770-683-6282 NCTC Announces Auditions for "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" Mark Twain's beloved 1876 novel, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," is about a young boy growing up in the antebellum south on the Mississippi river.  The play version will be on the main stage this September at the Newnan Community Theatre Company. Auditions for the show are July 6 and 7 at the theatre.  There are roles for all ages.  Auditions will begin at 7 pm and actors may attend either evening to try out for a role. "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" is being directed by Lamar Payne and is part of the theatre's 2009 season.   The show dates are September 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27.  NCTC is located at 24 1st Avenue in downtown Newnan.  For more information about the theatre, visit their website at www.newnantheatre.org.
