NEWNAN-COWETA HISTORICAL SOCIETY
PRESENTS ANNUAL SPIRIT STROLLS
Beginning the evening of Friday, October 5, the historic neighborhoods of LaGrange and Greenville Street will come alive with the dead. That is, the stories of strange and unusual spirit activities will be told as the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society present their annual Spirit Strolls.
This year the strolls will begin at the Newnan Theatre Company building on First Avenue and visit several haunted locales throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Each excursion will be led by a Spirit Guide, and at each stop the ghost or spirit who supposedly inhabits the space will appear and relate their sometimes scary, sometimes gruesome, sometimes silly tale to the group. The stroll takes just over an hour and participants are encouraged to wear comfy shoes to walk (or run away) in! Many of the stories being told are from the actual homeowners and some are local folklore. The stories are not too intense, but good judgement should be used in bringing children.
A special Stroll on October 20 is called "Progressive Dinner with the Dearly Departed" and is a progressive dinner buffet. Participants will enjoy delicious gourmet treats served by "ghost hosts" at several of the haunted locations. The cost for this special stroll is $40 per person.
The Spirit Strolls will be held October 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, and 26. There are two excursions each Friday and Saturday night, one at 7pm and again at 8:30pm. Groups are limited to 25 for each excursion.
Cost for the Spirit Stroll is $15 per person, and reservations must be made in advance. Spirit Stroll reservations can be made by calling the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society at 678-481-4526.
In conjunction with the strolls, their will be an opportunity to mix and mingle with some lively spirits during "Dinner with the Dead" - an interactive murder mystery dinner on October 27. Hosted by Newnan Theatre Company, dinner will begin at 9pm with spirits and salads, continues to the main course, and finally ends with the last rites of dessert. In between each course, diners will be asked to perform a little service for the residents of the building - solve some of the most intriguing murders ever committed in Coweta County. Working as teams, participants will compete by looking for clues, interviewing suspects, and perhaps witnessing a violent act or two.
