The Straynotes is an old time family gospel and bluegrass band composed of the other musical Jacksons, i.e. Alan Jackson's mother and sisters along with two of their spouses plus David Kinrade, the Minister of Music at the Newnan Methodist Church. The Straynotes website, www.straynotes.com, says this about the group:
About the Straynotes
The Straynotes band started as strictly a family affair playing for the love of God and the love of music. Although the Jackson sisters have sung along with Mama Ruth for a lifetime, instruments presented a new challenge - trying to play and sing at the same time. Lead guitarist Carol Jackson Glover picked up her first guitar in June of 2000 and began playing duets after Sunday dinner with her husband. Her twin sister Cathy Jackson Wright started playing the bass some 3 months afterwards, followed a few months later by elder sister Diane Jackson Dawson on the mandolin. The family matriarch, Mama Ruth Jackson, handles all percussion for the band. Lamar Wright, husband of bassist Cathy, an accomplished pianist and organist, received the the fiddle to level the playing field. Banks Glover, husband of lead guitarist Carol has played rhythm guitar for some 40 years. David Kinrade brings in the lead fiddle when not playing as the Minister of Music at the local Methodist Church. |
