NEWNAN CITY HALL'S 'ARTIST OF THE MONTH' FOR MARCH 2008

Eunice Nichols is named Newnan-Coweta Art Association's Artist of the Month for the month of March 2008.

Recently she has become CERTIFIED in a "new art" of pen and ink with oil rouging.  Having applied for an art scholarship and much to her surprise won it from the Society of Decorative Art, which was used towards her intensive study in Buffalo , New York last May.

She will be giving lessons in this new art on a small scale to begin with, until her term of office is complete at the end of May.  Some of the new work is on display and if interested in learning this type of art, or purchasing any of it, please contact her at eenartistbrush@yahoo.com .  She can design anything you may like to have.
She continues to paint other items such as gourds, wood pieces, slate, tin and canvas.

She has taken oil classes from Helen Hayes of Newnan, (a young 92 ½ years old) and does her decorative art work on her own.  She attends as many seminars and conventions as time allows,.

Eunice has won many ribbons for her oil artwork as well as for her decorative art.  She displays at the Annual Spring NCAA Show around the old courthouse square in Newnan, which this year will be held on Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m..  She also displays at the Annual Christmas Market show held at the Old Depot.  She has had several art pieces in the SCAVA Traveling Show in the past few years.  One of the main display areas here in Newnan is the Espresso Lane where about every eight weeks this display is changed out, and many of our members show their beautiful work.  Be sure to stop by and see it, the present display has 62 pieces and a great showing!  Enjoy some delicious coffee and, while there while enjoying the art display as well.

Eunice and Ray have lived in Newnan for about 14 years, coming from Chicago , Illinois .
They have two sons, Dan and Dave, who are both married and have four beautiful granddaughters.

Eunice says, "I have made many friendships here in Georgia , through the art associations and our church.  I find the more people work together as "team workers" and trust that is what they are doing is worthy, makes the world a better place."

Eunice is presently the President of the most active art association in the Southern part of Georgia . Eunice is also a member and current President of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association. NCAA meets the third Thursday each month (from September through May) at the Harriet Alexander Art Center on Hospital Road at 7:00 p.m. Visitors and new members are welcome.  An art demonstration is presented each month.  Come and join the fun. There is always something happening and planned with the Association and certainly you do not want to miss any of the upcoming events. We meet the third Thursday of the month at the Harriet Alexander Art House.

My congratulations to Eunice Nichols for being named the artist of the month. The new art form, pen and ink with oil rouging sounds very interesting. She is an inspiration for the young artists. Decorative Arts.
