June NCAA Exhibit at Espresso Lane Announced

Reception To Be Held June 7

Janice Shumaker from the Newna-Coweta Art Association (NCAA) has announced the themed art exhibit of NCAA paintings which will adorn the walls of the Espresso Lane Coffee Shop on the Square in Newnan.  The show will be hung on June 3 and the Reception to meet the participating artists will be held there on Thursday evening June 7 beginning at 7:30 PM.  Strange as it might seem, it turns out that the Theme for June has the exact same title as the Theme of this year's 2007 traveling exhibit of the Southern Crescent Alliance of Visual Artists (SCAVA), namely "Artists Choice", which opens in June at the Peachtree City Library.  Therefore, one needs to be careful not to confuse the two.  The NCAA paintings in Espresso Lane will hang for the month of June and then be taken down to be replaced by the July paintings.

Information on the monthly themed exhbits is available from Janice Shumaker at Jmshuz@aol.com  or on the NCAA website www.newcaa.com

mean the June show.  We will hang that exhibit, titled ARTIST CHOICE on June 3rd and hold the reception for it on Thursday evening, June 7th at 7:30.

The exhibit will continue to other counties until December 31.

Artists from Fayette Society of Fine Arts in the exhibit are Lowell Crawford, Mary Greene, Sandy Holcomb, Norma Poulos, and Kimberly Purcell.

From Carrollton Artist Guild are Janna Columbus, Anita Reid, and Mary Rogers.

Many artists are members of one or more art groups.  The exhibit can be viewed on the website: www.scavagroup.com.

Jerry Yates Song No. 1 on April Georgia Roots Music Chart

Newnan musician Jerry Yates, who just received an award from his producer, has now received another honor, this one from the Roots Music Association, whose April Radio Airplay Chart for Georgia shows Jerry Yates song "There's Peace From the Lord" in the No. 1 Slot. This association is one of a number of such groups which have sprung up in recent times promoting what is known as American Roots Music or Americana Music, which comprises several genres.  The top ranking song by Yates is in the "Gospel" genre.  A good example of this is the music in the film O, Brother, Where Art Thou?.

Yates has become fairly well known in the area for those who like Gospel music and Bluegrass music.  He has played at numerous venues including the monthly Grantville Depot Southern Country Gospel Sings run by Roy Smith.  Yates' next gig will be in Senoia over the Memorial Day weekend.

Children's Author Ann Westmoreland Coming to CABSE

Ann Westmoreland, who was then living in Newnan, began her writing career with a children's story based on an actual occurrence in her family.  This story,
Aunt Annie's Ghost, was so much fun for her to write and was so much admired by its readers, that she wrote a sequel, named after one of its characters, Pete.  She then soon followed this with a third story The Runaways.  At the writing workshop called The Writers Block in Newnan, Ann not only learned writing skills, she also learned the importance of promoting one's books thru book signings.  Therefore it is not surprising that Ann will be one of the participating writers in the Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza (CABSE) which will be held in September.  This will not be as easy as it sounds because Ann has since moved to Buchanan and is recuperating from triple bypass surgery but she is a very determined woman so we can be sure she will make it!
There are so far 18 Coweta authors who have agreed to come with the total expected to be about 20 - 22.

The CABSE will be a special feature of the New Grantville Days Festival which will be held on Main Street in Grantville the third weekend in September.  The authors will be seated behind name plates at a long row of tables.  The Book Signing will begin on Saturday September 15 at 10 AM and on Sunday September 16 at 12 Noon.  The table will close each day at 5 PM.  The purpose of the Signing is to provide the public with an opportunity to meet the authors and to obtain autographed copies of their books.  Admission to the Festival and the Signing is free of charge.  Grantville is a small city in southern Coweta County at Exit 35 on Interstate 85.  Information about the New Grantville Days Festival, which formerly was called Grantville Day, is available from its Chairman Sandra Lutrell at 770-583-9013 or at sangalasands@aol.com.

Information about the CABSE is available from its Coordinator, Forrest Schultz, at 770-583-3258 or schultz_forrest@yahoo.com.
