Subject: VOICES "Christmas Mist" Concert - December 6 - $10.00 Special
Date: Sun, 30 Nov 2008 22:21:38 -0500

Hello everybody!

It is hard to believe that the concert day is less than a week away!  As you all know, we will be presenting "Christmas Mist" concert on December 6 at The Wadsworth Auditorium in Newnan once again.

Those who attended the Fall Benefit Concert know what a wonderful venue this is. The Wadsworth Auditorium is located a block away from the Historic Court Square in the heart of Newnan, already beautifully decorated for the Holiday Season. There are many stores and restaurants to visit before the concert. As The Wadsworth is barely a block away, cars can be parked around the square, taking a small stroll to attend the concert.

The show will start at 7:30 pm and will be followed by our traditional "Meet & Greet." This is most certainly an occasion for the whole family to share. As a special Christmas event for the kids that attend the concert, we will be offering a photo opp with the "Christmas Fairy" which will take place before the performance (6:30 pm - 7:20 pm.)

As a Christmas gift for all our friends and members, we will be running a special through the end of Tuesday.  WE ARE PRICING ALL TICKETS AT $10.00 IF PURCHASED THROUGH BROWN PAPER TICKETS AT OUR WEBSITEhttp://voicesonline.org/tickets.aspxPlease note that concert and photo opp tickets ($5.00)  need to be purchased separately. Please enter "special" as your discount code when at Brown Paper Tickets.  Since the concert is less than a week away, request for tickets to be left at Will Call.

The solo female ensemble Zaphyra – comprised by Maria Pia Ugarte, Jill Safko, Paige McCauley and Megan Zerbe -- will be offering solo and ensemble favorites like "Gesu Bambino," Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu," "My Favorite Things," "Where Are You Christmas" and "Little Drummer Boy" among others. Young violinist Matthew Roberts returns to offer a rendition of Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise." Local male vocalist, J. Brock, joins Voices for the first time with soundtrack favorites "The Christmas Shoes" and "Believe" from "The Polar Express" as well as other numbers. Young harpist Kelly Abrams will also be performing as well as ballet dancer Stephanie Goehring and the Voices Youth Ensemble.

Carlos and Julissa Rodriguez from Carlos Salon in Peachtree City continue their association with Voices developing the hair design for "Christmas Mist."  Piano Crafters continues their support providing the beautiful grand piano for the night.  Argentinean Style Delights and Ten East Washington, both Newnan businesses, will provide some special treats for the "Meet & Greet" reception.

We look forward to seeing your there!

[Letter To The Editor] VOICES Gives Charities Free Tickets To Concert On Saturday

A  PERSONAL  NOTE  TO  ALL  MY  NEWS  CONTACTS

I want to thank all of you for your help in getting the word out about the great accomplishments in the Coweta arts scene.  I also hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and will have a Merry Christmas.

What you see below is not one of my "Tidbits" but a Letter To The Editor.  I feel strongly about this, so that I would like this to appear as a Letter To The Editor instead of as a part of the Tidbit I just issued about this same subject.

If I may be so bold as to offer a piece of advice, I think it would be good to stress news like this as a way of encouraging others to be generous as we enter this time when a lot of people will be facing financial challenges.  Here is someone doing something about it, not just griping!!

Sincerely yours,

Forrest W. Schultz

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

"VOICES Gives Charities Free Tickets To Concert on Saturday"

The VOICES choral group has become well known in Southside arts circles for its excellent performances. It is now about to become well-known for its concern for those unable to afford to pay for the tickets. VOICES Artistic Director Maria Pia Ugarte has announced that free tickets are being given to three different area charities chosen by the VOICES membership.

Quite appropriately this Chrismas present will be for its "Chrismas Mist" Concert on Saturday at 8 PM at The Wadsworth in Newnan. I would encourage those attending the concert to stay for the Meet and Greet Reception in the Lobby afterward to thank her for this generosity. Others can express their appreciation by contacting her via www.VoiceOnLine.org.

Sincerely,

[Coweta Arts Tidbits] Clydesdale Horses Come To Grantville for Christmas (On Dec. 9)

Coweta Arts Tidbits

Christmas Present From Grantville Day & LaGrange Grocery:

Clydesdale Horses Come To Grantville On December 9 !!

Toys And Food For Needy Children To Be Collected

All kinds of interesting things have happened in the history of Grantville.  The latest concerns the famous (Budweiser) Clydesdale Horses, which were part of the plans for this year's Grantville Day festival.  When the Clydesdales could not come to Grantville Day (whose official name this year was the Grantville Days Crosstie Festival), the Grantville Day Committee scheduled them instead for Tuesday December 9 as a Christmas present to Grantville to be part of this year's Grantville Christmas celebrations.  To be more precise, they are a Christmas present both from the Grantville Day Committee and from the LaGrange Grocery, which is also involved in the planning.

The Clydesdales will be on display both in their famous trotting mode and also stationery to give the spectators an opportunity to photograph these fabulous horses.  Since the Clydedales do not make that many appearances, anyone interested should be sure to take advantage of this opportunity.  They will only be here for two hours:  from 5:30 PM through 7:30 PM.  The place will be the site of Ann Long's trailers, which is located on Hwy. 29 going south about a quarter mile past Exit 35 on the left side of the road just past the gas-station/stores.

It is not certain where or not Santa will appear but one thing which will happen is that the spectators will be given an opportunity to play Santa by donating non-perishable foods and new unwrapped toys, which will be distributed to needy Grantville families for Christmas.

Information is available from Granville Day Chairman Sandra Luttrell at 770-304-6014 or sangalasands@aol.com.

Tyler Minix Art Show at Fayette County Library This Week

16 Year Old Senoia Boy Has Already Won Awards For His Paintings

Kathaleen Brewer enjoys teaching art, especially to enthustiastic students like 16 year old Tyler Minix of Senoia.  She has also enjoyed arranging for him to have his first art show at the Fayette County Library in Fayetteville.    Brewer says of Minix, "He is quickly approaching the gallery-entry level, but what I find even more unique is how Tyler enjoys himself in the studio. I've never seen a kid talk and laugh like he does while working. He's a real hoot."   Suddenly this year the arts began booming in the Coweta County City of Senoia.  Tyler Minix is the latest example of this buegeoning Senoia scene.

Brewer has just issued the following news release about this show and the artist:

Aspiring young artist, Tyler Minix, age 16, of Senoia has his work on display in the Fayette County Library. The exhibit will hang until the last day of November.

Tyler's credits to date are:
2002 Eastside Elementary Art Student of the Year ; 2003 Willis Rd. Elementary Art Student of the Year; 2004 Chosen to draw program for Nutcracker (13 years old);
"Leonardo DaVinci" a graphite drawing hung in Coweta- Performing Arts Center (Age 13);
2005 Powers Crossroads – "Bass Pin & Ink" (Age13); 2006 Honorable Mention – 8th district congressional Art contest (Age 14). There is a picture of Tyler shaking Congressman Lynn Westmoreland's hand in front this painting.
Most recently he won the 2008 2nd Junior Bassmasters Art Contest (Age 16) and had his work published in their magazine. This piece was a watercolor and pen and ink.

Tyler studied with Sheryl Vickers of "Young Artist of Newnan" through Newnan's County Recreation Department from the 4th grade through the 8th grade. Then he began studying at the Fayette Art Center. At first he worked with Tatiana McCoy and then started learning acrylic and oil painting from Kathaleen Brewer. Since the Art Center closed, he continues to study with Ms. Brewer at the KB art Studio. Under Ms. Brewer's tutelage he is quickly conquering larger works. A beautiful example is his oil painting of the bulls. Tyler is currently working on his first consignment piece for Tom Camp, a lawyer. This painting is a large and personal rendition of the "Bear Dance" by William Holbrook Beard which was originally painted in 1870.

Tyler's goal is to win a scholarship to an art college. He is presently home schooled and loves hunting, fishing and camping.

Information on the Fayette County Library is available on  their website:

Christmas Tree Lighting Set For December 4

Christmas Parade and Other Christmas Events Being Planned

The bad news is that there will no Calico Christmas in Grantville this year.  However, the good news is that other events are now being planned instead, including the already announced Christmas Parade, which is still scheduled for December 13.  Details of the Parade and the other events will be announced later.

There is one event that is ready to be announced now and that is the Christmas Tree Lighting, which will be held on Thursday night December 4 at 6:30 PM in Colley Park on Main Street in Grantville. The lighting ceremony will involve the singing of Christmas Carols by the students at Glanton Elementary School.

Grantville is a small city in southern Coweta County located at Exit 35 on Interstate 85.  It is named after Mr. L.P. Grant, who served for some time during the 19th century as the President of the railroad running through Grantville.  Colley Park is named after the Colley family which built and lived in the historic Bonnie Castle mansion for many years.  The Bonnie Castle will be involved in the soon to be anounced Christmas events.  The Glanton Elementary school is named after Mr. Thomas Glanton, who served for many years as teacher, coach, and principal of the Grantville High School.

NCAA Schedule Formed For Themed Exhibits at Espresso Lane

Next  Reception On December 11

According to Nancy Tomlin, The Newnan-Coweta Art Association (NCAA) recently adopted a schedule for all the themed exhibits at its Gallery at Espresso Lane for the following year.  This is very helpful because now the Receception Dates and times can be announced in advance instead of just a few days before.  It is especially important to know well in advance the dates of upcoming events during this year's Holiday Season when one needs to decide among the many events in and near Coweta County which are planned -- this should be the busiest season ever!

According to the NCAA Themed Exhibit Calendar, the next such exhibit will last for seven weeks, from December 7, 2008 through January 25, 2009.  The Theme will be "What A Year We Have Had" or "Artist's Choice" (meaning each artist can choose which painting he wishes to exhibit).  The Reception for this Exhibit will be held at Espresso Lane on Thursday, December 11 from 7:00 PM through 8:30 PM.  As always, this Reception provides an opportunity not only to see the paintings adorning the walls, but also to meet the artists who produced them and to have a cup of great coffee!

The Expresso Lane Coffee Shop is located on the Courthouse Square in downtown Newnan at 22 West Court Square.  Coming to the Reception will also provide the opportunity to meet the new owners, January and Nathan Dockery, who, as previously announced, have agreed to continue to allow its wall space to be used for the NCAA Gallery.  Information on Espresso Lane is available on their website http://espressolanenewnan.com or by calling 770-683-7290 or by emailing espressolanenewnan@gmail.com

Information on the NCAA Gallery is available from its co-ordinator Nancy Tomlin at
"Espresso Lane Gallery Coordinator" elgallery@newcaa.com or by visiting the NCAA website www.newcaa.com and then clicking on Espresso Lane.

Grassroots Arts Grants For 2009 Announced:

Arts Centre and Southeastern Ballet Company Are Recipients

Arts Clayton has just announced the recipients for the 2009 Grassroots Arts Grants for the Southside Counties.  Coweta County has received three of these grants:  one going to the Southeastern Ballet Co. and two to organizations of the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County, namely its Masterworks Chorale and its patrons organization, which is called the Coweta Community Foundation.  The exact wording in the Arts Clayton news release about Coweta County is this:

COWETA COUNTY:  Centered on Masterworks Chorale, "Music of the Masters; Coweta Community Foundation (Patrons of the Centre), "Annie Get your Gun"; Southeastern Ballet Company, Holiday Spectacular

The news release explained the GAP program in these words:

JonesboroArts Clayton has announced its annual Grassroots Arts Program (GAP) grants to organizations in Butts, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Newton , Rockdale and Spalding Counties .  Over the next year, the projects of thirty-one organizations will be partially funded through the GAP program.  South Side area organizations received grants totaling over twenty-six thousand dollars as part of the statewide Grassroots Arts Program.  Each project was selected for their proposal to provide new art experiences for the community or to expand existing art programs and reaching out to new audiences.

The Grassroots Arts Program is funded by the Georgia Council for the Arts through appropriations from the Georgia General Assembly to ensure all Georgians have access to the arts activities which enrich our lives.  Every Georgia County receives an equal per-capita allocation.  Arts Clayton was once again selected by the Georgia Council for the Arts as a Grassroots Agency to administer this exciting program for the ten counties in the Southside region for fiscal year 2009.  Arts Clayton, as the appointed re-granting agency, is responsible for promoting, collecting applications, developing, coordinating and administering the program in Butts, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Newton , Rockdale and Spalding Counties in accordance with State regulations.

This statewide arts program is designed to encourage local collaborations between artists, arts organizations, and non-arts organizations, in order to serve a broad range of Georgia 's residents.  Funding is open to any non-profit organization or unit of local government.  Ideally, Grassroots Arts Projects create new opportunities for citizens to experience the arts, while fostering greater awareness and developing local partnerships in the arts.  GAP also aims to have a positive impact on overall community development in these growing counties.  Funded projects must be accessible to the general public, must provide 50% of the total project cost as a cash match for the grant, and projects must be completed by June 30, 2009.

The Grassroots Advisory Committee of 20 volunteers representing all ten counties in the region, met October 25th to determine and recommend funding allocations.  The Committee, which was comprised of individuals with a variety of backgrounds in areas such as tourism, as artist, educators, journalists, business owners, retired military, political representatives, homemakers, and medical professionals, faced a very difficult task with over $70,000 in art grant funding requests and only $47,674.63 available to re-grant.

Primary consideration was given to applications reflecting art projects with a commitment to EXCELLENCE, ACCESSIBILITY, EDUCATION, COLLABORATION and SUPPORT FOR LOCAL ARTISTS.  Projects with the potential for lasting impact and positive change took precedence.

VOICES PRESENTS "CHRISTMAS MIST" ON DECEMBER 6

PEACHTREE CITY, GEORGIAOctober 30, 2008:  As part of their 2008-2009 season, Voices will be presenting "Christmas Mist" on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 7:30 pm.  They will be returning to The Wadsworth Auditorium for this second concert and will be offering their now traditional Post-Concert "Meet & Greet" Reception (approximately 9:30 pm.)  The concert will be preceded by a special photo opportunity with "The Christmas Fairy" at 6:30 pm.

Voices launched their current season on September 4 with the presentation of their Fall Benefit at the same venue.  Ms. Ugarte, Artistic Director, talks about the process behind the conceptual music selection:  "The way the pieces are chosen goes back to that flow I continuously refer to.  There is an idea behind the music and, for this two-year season, the idea spreads throughout the four concerts," as it evolves and reaches full fruition in September of 2009.  Referring to the unique blend of music and styles that Voices is now known for, Ugarte explains:  "It is most important how a piece precedes the prior work and follows the next."  The concert will have a pondering tone to it.  "To give you a hint, we will start with 'I Wonder as I Wonder.'  A question is presented.  Towards the end, an answer will emerge; though, it ought to be different for each individual, as it is ultimately a personal experience, but most definitely a miracle of love and of joy for all."

The solo female ensemble Zaphyra – composed of Maria Pia Ugarte, Jill Safko, Paige McCauley and Megan Zerbe -- will be offering solo and ensemble favorites like "Gesu Bambino," Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Pie Jesu," "My Favorite Things," "Where Are You Christmas" and "Little Drummer Boy" among others.  Young violinist Matthew Roberts returns to offer a rendition of Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise."  Local male vocalist, Brock Tarno, joins Voices for the first time with soundtrack favorites "The Christmas Shoes" and "Believe" from "The Polar Express" as well as other numbers.  Young harpist Kelly Abrams will also be performing as well as ballet dancer Stephanie Goehring and the Voices Youth Ensemble.

Carlos and Julissa Rodriguez from Carlos Salon in Peachtree City continue their association with Voices developing the hair design for "Christmas Mist."  "We have come up with a really nice concept that will help enhance the fantasy of what we are trying to do" continued Ugarte. Nacolia Gipp, from Styles by Nacolia based in Riverdale, will also be contributing in this area with the design of some hair components.  Piano Crafters continues their support providing the beautiful grand piano for the night and Argentinean Style Delights will provide some special treats for the "Meet & Greet" reception.  Both businesses are located in Newnan.

For this Holiday occasion, Voices will be offering a special photo op with "The Christmas Fairy."  "It is our intention to engage the interest of the young audiences as much as of the adults," explained Ugarte.  "What a better time to create interest in our kids than Christmas?"  In their search to develop a younger following, Voices looks to contribute towards the development of the professional musicians of tomorrow and the audiences to come. "I think it is vital for our kids to see performers their age on stage.  This is how possibility and creativity take off.  As you will see, we have several young performers for "Christmas Mist."  This event will most certainly be sure to provide a night of musical fantasy suitable for audiences of all ages.

Voices will once again offer their usual "musical amalgamation" looking to enchant those present.  "When everything comes together, we want to be able to gift our audience with enjoyment through a memorable musical experience, away from the stresses of everyday life. One of my favorite songs of the night is "Believe" from the 'Polar Express.'  If we can evoke that marvelous sense of hope in one of the hearts present at the concert, I will consider the night a wonderful success."

Tickets for the concert are $20.00 general admission; $15.00 children, students, seniors, armed forces, police and firefighters; $5 for the photo op; and are available for sale at the Voices website (www.VoicesOnline.com,) through Brown Paper Tickets (24/7 Ticket Ordering Hotline:  800-838-3006.)  Tickets can also be purchased at Scott's Bookstore in Newnan (28 S Court Sq.) Please contact info@VoicesOnline.org or call 404-358-2950 for more information.  Updates, directions and details are available at the Voices website.
