Georgia Youth Ballet To Present Lily The Ladybug at Arts Centre

There are now so many arts events in the Southern Crescent that it has become a real challenge to get the word out about all of them. A great step forward in helping to meet this need was the recent creation of the Southside Arts Agenda, a weekly online news service about the Southside scene, which is not only informative but maintains high literary standards as well a high quality in the photographs used in the various news items it covers. A good illustrative example of this is to be found in the current issue in its coverage of the upcoming performance of the Georgia Youth Ballet. Magdalena Maury, director of The Studio in Fayetteville and founder of Georgia Youth Ballet, has written and choreographed an original children's ballet. Maury's Lily the Ladybug, will debut on Saturday, April 14 at 2:30 pm at The Centre for Performing and Visual Arts in Coweta County as part of the spring recital of dancers from The Studio. "Lily" has been a labor of love for Maury for many years. "I first had this idea almost five years ago about a ladybug who was friend to all the insects and animals in her garden, except for a pesky, evil aphid," said Maury. "It has been a tremendous creative challenge writing the story, creating the characters, picking out the music, choreographing new dance numbers, designing costumes with some amazingly talented people, and seeing our wonderful dancers bring the whole thing to life!" The heroine of the ballet is Lily, performed by Newnan's Emily Moore. Lily is growing up, and one spring she is especially worried about losing her spots, which she thinks will keep her from being able to protect the garden of Lord and Lady Twinkle from the dreaded aphid, Aphonia. With help from her friends Ollie the Owl, Beatrice the Bee, Merrie the Mouse, Fiona the Fairy, Caty the Caterpillar and others, Lily makes a discovery that changes many things for her and the residents of the garden. "Lily" will be the headline performance at the spring recital for dancers from The Studio. Also on the program will be a Tribute to Broadway featuring several jazz, tap and modern numbers. Adult tickets are $10 and children ages 12 and under are $5. Tickets are available at The Studio in Fayetteville and at the door the day of the performance.
