The theatre has learned from Samuel French, the licensing company for the play, that the rights have been frozen. This means no theatre is able to put on the show at this time. This is due to the fact that a Broadway revival of the play is in the works. Mae Nunn Publishes Another "Texas Treasures" Novel
Anyone who is familiar with Coweta author Mae Nunn knows that, although she now has resided in Georgia for many years, her heart is still in her native Texas, or, as Lifestyles magazine put it last month in their article about Southside writers, "You can take the girl out of Texas, but you cannot take Texas out of the girl" !! It is for this reason that she launched her series of Texas Treasures Romance Novels in 2005. The fifth in this series has just been published, A Texas Ranger's Family, which has just received at 4.5 star rating from Romantic Times.
When Mae goes to book signings she dresses like a Texas cowgirl, but this is NOT an act! She dresses that way because that is what she is! She also is not kidding when on her website there is a picture of a cowgirl boot accompanying her motto of "Inspiration With a Kick", because her particular genre is inspirational romance, most of which is in the Texas Treasures series. Speaking of websites, hers is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen and there is good info there on her and all of her books. Three Coweta Photographers In SlowExposures Exhibition:

In each year since its establishment there have been Coweta County photographers with entries accepted into the Slow Exposures Photographic Exhibition of the Rural South. As the word has gotten out about the prestigious nature of this show, there have been more and more submissions from photographers all across the nation, making it more difficult each year to get admitted. This year there were three photogrpahers from Coweta County who had entries accepted: Paul Conlan, Gary Gruby, and Carla Cook Smith. There were a total of 93 images accepted by the juror out of a total of 641 submitted.

Legacy Theatre Announces Fall Broadway Workshops
The Legacy Theatre has released the following information about their Falll Broadway Workshops": We are now registering for our Fall Broadway Workshops. The Broadway Workshop is an on going class held in 8 week sessions. Students learn all aspects of musical theatre: audition technique, improv games, stage directions, vocal technique and much more! We are passionate about training your children with the best possible supportive, non-competitive environment just for fun or to work toward a professional career. Our students will become proficient in acting, singing and dancing. In addition, Broadway Workshop students become Legacy Members and receive discounts to our professional performances! The majority of our workshops are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting August 26th and 27th, 2009. The Workshop is divided into age groups. Newnan Theatre Announces Jimmy Dean Play
Newnan Theatre's Publicity Director Dianne Olsen has released this announcement about their upcoming play about Jimmy Dean: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWNAN COMMUNITY THEATRE COMPANY CONTACT: DIANNE OLSEN, 770-683-6282 James Dean Fan Club Reunion Time In the early 1950s there was a charismatic and handsome actor who lit up the screen. His name was James Dean. From starring roles in "Rebel Without a Cause," "East of Eden," and "Giant", he was quite famous and popular. He reached legendary status when, at the age of 24, he was killed in a car crash in California. The next show on Newnan Community Theatre Company's main stage is "Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" by Ed Graczyk. The comedy/drama, set in 1975, brings together a reunion of the "Disciples of James Dean" a fan club for the teen idol. The women returning for the reunion include Mona (played by Terri Morrison) who claims she had James Dean's love child; Sissy (Judie Hardin), a wise-cracking truck stop worker; Stella May (Rebecca Lanyi) who married into money; and the sweet, kind Edna Louise (Tami Savage). Things really start moving when a stranger (Marsha Elzey) arrives in the five and dime with secrets to reveal. The story slides back to the eventful night of James Dean's death, September 30, 1955 when the women were teens. The teens are portrayed by Jessica Kiel (Mona), Kristin Owens (Sissy), Kelsey Gentry (Stella May) and Jordan Owens (Edna Louise) Supporting actors include Sharon Somolik and Levi Gentry, playing the five and dime manager and the only male member of the "Disciples". The play is being directed by NCTC's Artistic Director, Darren Mathews. Bert Lyons is the Stage Manager and Susan Patterson is the Producer. Robert Altman directed the film version of the play and also directed it on Broadway with the same cast. The original cast was Sandy Dennis, Karen Black, Cher, and Kathy Bates. Show dates for "Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" are August 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30. The show is part of their 2009 season. Show times are 8 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings and 2:30 on Sundays. Tickets are $15 for adult, $12 for students and seniors, and $10 for children. Since seating is limited, reservations or pre-purchase of tickets is highly recommended. Tickets may be purchased via the theatre's website, newnantheatre.org. Award-Winning Coweta Author C. E. Walz Publishes Alley Loo
Coweta Author C. E. Walz has won the Dragon Fly Publishing Best Book Award for her recently published children's book Alley Loo: A Spooky Swamp Tale. The book also has gotten a five-star review from Lori Calabrese of the Children's Book Examiner, which was published in the Amazon Customer Reviews last week. Calabrese has also conducted an interview of Walz which was published in the July 31, 2009 issue of the Children's Book Examiner. Both the review and interview are helpful in learning about Walz and her book. Additional information is available on her website www.cewalz.com.
Walz has been teaching writing and English for many years. She currently heads the middle school English Department at Woodward Academy in College Park. She lives in Newnan in the same subdivision as another award winning children's author, Kimberly Campbell. They also both belong to the Childrens Book Authors and Illustrators organization as well as the Coweta Writers Group.
Walz plans to join other Coweta authors in the book signing for local authors which will be held at the Powers Festival over the Labor Day Weekend. She will also be participating later in a yet to be announced program at The Carnegie in Newnan, which has not yet opened.
Walz (her pen name and maiden name) is married to singer/guitarist James Sennett, who is known as the Songman, who performs at local venues and will be one of the singers at Grantville Day.

Newnan Theatre Announces Audition for Misery, Zombie Prom
Newnan Theatre's Publicity Director Dianne Olsen has announced auditions for two upcoming plays: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWNAN COMMUNITY THEATRE COMPANY CONTACT: DIANNE OLSEN, 770-683-6282 Newnan Community Theatre Company (NCTC) has set auditions for two upcoming shows, Misery and Zombie Prom. Misery by Stephen King, adapted for the stage by Simon Moore, has roles for two adults - one male and one female. Auditions will be Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25. Auditions will begin at 7 pm at the theatre. Misery will be in the black box on October 31 and November 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15. Those auditioning may attend either evening. Zombie Prom is based on a story by John Dempsey and Hugh Murphy. The music is by Dana P. Rowe. The book and lyrics are by John Dempsey. Directed by Jennifer Dorrell, this NCTC special event will be October 29 and 30 at 8 pm and October 31 at midnight. Auditions for Zombie Prom will be on Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, August 26. Auditions will be from 7 to 9 pm. Those auditioning may attend either evening. Those auditioning for Zombie Prom must come prepared with a 16-bar Broadway style song (ballad or up-tempo) and comfortable clothes. There will be a dance audition and cold readings from the script. Zombie Prom cast requirements include four females and four males in the age range of 16-30, as long as you can look like a teenager. There are also two roles for a male and female in the age range of 35-40 (or the ability to look like it). The female is a school principal and the male is a sleazy tabloid reporter. All performers must have strong vocal skills and good movement ability. The role of the female school principal is a vocally demanding part and she and the reporter have a big tango number. Musicology of Newnan has announced the offering of a course in Beginning Voice Lessons which will be taught by one of the premier vocal arts instructors on the Southside, Maria Pia Ugarte, the founder of the famed Ugarte Studio in Fayette County who recently became an instrcutor at Musicology of Newnan. BEGINNING VOICE LESSONS
Group voice lessons are offered as an Introduction to Voice. Classes are 50 minutes long, once weekly, meeting twice the last week. Instruction is provided by Maria Pia Ugarte, Artistic Director of Voices and Zaphyra and Founding Director of The Ugarte Studio. This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of singing. Students will receive instruction in the basics of breath management, posture, vocal and muscle coordination, ear training and pitch recoginition. At the end of the last lesson, at 6:45 pm, a song will be performed jointly by the students for family and friends. Maria Pia Ugarte has announced that the auditions being held for the Fayette-based Zaphyra female vocalist ensemble will be open to Cowetans and residents of other nearby counties. The auditions are announced in the Notice below recently released by Ugarte:

All members perform solo and ensemble pieces in an array of different styles (classical, pop, Christian contemporary, musicals, etc.) Rehearsals take place in the intersection of Peachtree City, Fayetteville and Tyrone once a week. When closer to a production date or deadline, rehearsals might increase. Recording projects are in the works. Auditions will be held in August for two openings for its 2009 – 2010 season. Pre-requisites: early twenties to late thirties; ability to meet rehearsal schedule, punctuality, willingness to learn and love of music; team player with positive attitude a must; theatrical experience, additional instrument and music reading skills a plus. Light Coloratura or Lyric Soprano: must be classically trained and able to handle foreign languages and harmonies if necessary. Prepare one aria in foreign language that demonstrates range and vocal agility (if coloratura) and a non-classical piece. Mezzo/Alto: need not be classically trained but able to sing harmony; all styles welcome. Prepare one ballad and one up tempo song or one aria and one non-classical piece if classically trained. THE FAYETTE-COWETA CHAPTER OF IAAP OFFERS FREE SEMINAR WITH GLENDA Y. HICKS
This upcoming Monday, August 10, the Fayette-Coweta Chapter of IAAP will be offering a free seminar, open to the general public. Glenda Y. Hicks, CPA, will be talking about "Women in Transition." She will be addressing the different stages of life that women go through in terms of career, relationships, etc.
Glenda Y. Hicks is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the states of Georgia and Florida. She has over 20 years of experience and owns a CPA firm in Marietta, Georgia. Ms. Hicks exclusively serves the nonprofit community, by providing a myriad of consulting services in the area of financial management and tax research, in a capacity as CFO by the Hour as well as on a project basis. She is a member of the Professional Women Network, an international training organization, and is trained in offering personal and professional development workshops primarily focused on women's issues including Managing Stress, Leadership & Management Development, the Superwoman Syndrome, Building Positive Self Esteem and more. These workshops are offered to both nonprofit and for-profit organizations, as well as professional associations and conferences. Ms. Hicks is active in her community and serves as Vice-Chair for the Cobb Community Collaborative, and is a member of Leadership Cobb Class of 2010. She is also a board member of the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association (NLADA) based in Washington, D.C.
Four books that Ms. Hicks co-authored will be available for sale as well as other titles in a 17-book series on women and youth issues.
