[Coweta Arts Tidbits] Legacy Theatre Announces 2007 - 2008 Season

    Legacy Theatre Announces  2007-2008 Season

Considering the fact that the tickets for The Legacy Theatre's scheduled performances of High School Musical were sold out even before most news media had even written about it and that the schedule had to be extended to accommodate the demand for tickets, it might be a good idea for theatre lovers to be made aware of the upcoming schedule well in advance to insure sufficient time for ticket purchases.

The Southside Arts Agenda has done us this service in its latest issue, for which it deserves great credit:

    Legacy Announces 2007 - 2008 Season

The hilarious comedy about Texas' third smallest town, where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies.  The eclectic band of citizens that make up this town are portrayed by only two performers, making the satire on life in rural America even more delightful as they depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna-men, women, children and animals.  Sept. 21-Oct. 14

This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940's radio broadcast.  With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.  Nov. 23-Dec. 16

More so than any composer and lyricist who have written for the stage, the songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein have become an integral part of our everyday lives.  This stunning collection of compositions places five performers in a theatrical setting, offering the audience a glorious parade of genuine hits.  Jan. 25-February 17

A feisty parolee follows her dreams to a small town in Wisconsin and finds a place for herself working at Hannah's Spitfire Grill.
"An abundance of warmth, spirit and goodwill! Some of the most engaging and instantly infections melodies heard in an original musical in some time."  USA Today April 18-May 11

Arnold Lobel's well-loved characters hop from page to the stage in this new musical that remains true to the spirit of the original stories as it follows two great friends, the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons.  A score that bubbles with melody and wit, it's jazzy upbeat sound is a perfect match for the hopping, crawling and flying denizens that inhabit Frog and Toad's world.  June 26-July 13 (Thursdays-Sunday)

Tickets for the Legacy Theatre 2007-2008 season are on sale now by calling the box office at (404) 895 - 1473 or by visiting the theatre located at 1175 Senoia Road in Tyrone.

Vickie Kennedy at  Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza in Sept.

The literary aspect of the burgeoning Coweta arts scene will be highlighted on September 15 & 16 at the first ever Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza to which all Coweta writers of published books have been invited.  So far sixteen authors have agreed to attend with the total expected to rise to about twenty.  One of the participating authors will be Vickie Kennedy of Newnan.

Kennedy has had  four books published:  a non-fiction "tips" book (An Informative Guide To Hiring A Quality Contratctor), an EPPIE award-winning science fiction work (The Hidden Truth of Cytech's Randall 40), a romance novel (The Strong Arms of the Law), and a novel based in Newnan (A Writers Dream and a Cowboy's Heart). Her next novel, which will probably be completed next year, is based in Grantville, where she lived during her childhood.

Kennedy has also contributed to the Coweta literary scene through the establishment in 1995 of a Newnan-based writing workshop called the Writers Block, which has helped many local authors get their books written, published and marketed.  And, as if this were not enough, she has even established her own publishing company, called etreasures, which began by publishing local authors and which has now expanded to include authors from all over the USA and even Canada.

Vickie Kennedy may be contacted at 678-850-9469 or v.kennedy@numail.org.  Information is availableby visiting these websites:  www.vickiekennedy.com and www.etreasurespublishing.com

Announcements about the other authors attending the Signing will be made soon.

The Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza will begin at 10 AM Saturday September 15 and 12 Noon Sunday September 16 and will end at 5 PM each day in the renovated Railroad Freight Depot on Main Street in Grantville, a small city in southern Coweta County located at Exit 35 on I-85.  It is being provided as a special feature of this year's New Grantville Days Festival, which formerly was called "Grantville Day". Information on the New Grantville Days Festival is available from its Chairman, Sandra Luttrell, at 770-583-9013 or sangalasands@aol.com

Sellout Causes Extension of High School Musical at Legacy Theatre

The Legacy Theatre's next show has already attracted so much attention that before I even got a chance to announce it here they have already sold out all the tickets and have decided to extend the perfornance.  Although the theatre itself is located in Tyrone, this can be regarded as a triumph for Coweta arts because the owners and directors, Mark and Bethany Smith, live in Newnan.

Here is what the website www.thelegacytheatre.org says about this show, which is called High School Musical:

    Forever Plaid

    High School Musical
    July 31st - August 5th, 2007
This is a full- length staged musical of the much-loved Disney Channel original movie.  The movie has broken all ratings records across the country and has been televised in over 100 countries worldwide.  The soundtrack is the top-selling album of the year.  The musical contains all of the soundtrack favorites such as "Get'cha Head in the Game", "Stick To the Status Quo" and "Start of Something New" PLUS 2 new songs and a "High School Musical Mega Mix"!
To order tickets online, click the
Buy Tickets button to the right
    or call (404) 895 - 1473.

Now here is what their publicity director, Dustin Lewis says about the extension, in a memo just now released:

We are so excited to announce that Disney's High School Musical is
quickly selling out!!! We are extending the run for 8 more
    performances!
    August 10,11,12 and 17,18,19 (Friday-Saturday-Sundays)

Any questions please email me or call 404-895-1473

    Dustin Lewis, The Legacy Theatre

There you have it, folks, one more testimony to the burgeoning Coweta arts scene.  Mark and Bethany have almost worked themselves to death to produce theatrical excellence.  Looks like it has paid off!! I sure hope someone at that Theatre is having them come out and get applauded!!

    Book Signing Extravaganza

Janet, it has been a very long time!!!

OK, this is really something I am excited about -- if you could do something special on this, great.  I will be writing one Tidbit about each author coming -- so it will end up being a lot of info.  Since I really like you I am going to let you read what I just emailed to the Grantville Depotalk group to give you some idea.

Let's chat some time soon.  Call me at 770-583-3258.

OK, here it is -- to give  you an idea of how excited I am abouth this:

OK, guys, here it is -- my Coweta Arts Tidbit about the Extravaganza.

Kudos go to Sandy Luttrell and to the Veterans for agreeing to do this -- this is a first, by the way, not just a first for Grantville Day but a first Period -- no one has ever done this before, so we are pioneers here, guys -- let's hear a cheer for Grantville !!

And, this is really gonna be fun -- do you know there will be both a cowboy and a cowgirl there -- each dressed in Texas attire because each was a native of Texas --she writes Texas romance novels and he writes cowboy poetry.  I could go on but will save more neat stuff until later.

OK, here it is -- History being made and you its witnesses!!

    Forrest

Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza on Sept. 15 & 16

During the past several years the achievements of  Coweta County 's performing artists and visual artists have been brought to public attention.  But there is almost no awareness that the literary arts also constitute an important facet of the Coweta scene.  There is so little knowledge about this that even some Coweta writers themselves are unaware of all the others out there!  The accomplishments of Coweta County 's authors will be highlighted on September 15 & 16 at the first ever Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza to which all Coweta writers are being invited.  Thus far 16 of them have agreed to attend, and the total is expected to climb to about 20.  Every effort is being made to locate and contact and invite every Coweta County writer of a published book.  Anyone who has been missed should contact Forrest Schultz at 770-583-3258 or schultz_forrest@yahoo.com.  Announcements about the particular authors attending will be made soon.

This Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza will be one of the features at this year's New Grantville Days Festival, which will be held on Main Street in Grantville.  The authors will be seated behind name plates at a long row of tables along the east wall of the renovated Railroad Freight Depot.  Admission to the Festival and the Signing is free of charge.  The Signing will begin at 10 AM on Saturday September 15 and at 12 Noon Sunday September 16 and will last each day until 5 PM.  Grantville is a small city in southern Coweta County at Exit 35 on Interstate 85 about a mile south of Atlanta .  Infomation on "Grantville Day", the original name of this festival is available from its Chairman Sandra Luttrell at sangalasands@aol.com.
