Tribute to Barbara Scruggs at SCAVA Exhibit at Espresso Lane on Dec. 6

The Southside has been mourning the passing of Coweta artist Barbara Scruggs and remembering her great accomplishments by means of various tributes.  Since Barbara was very active in the Southern Crescent Alliance of Visual Artists (SCAVA) including serving as its President in 2004 and 2007, it is quite appropriate that one of these tributes will by held during the time when this year's SCAVA Traveling Exhibit is finishing its course during the last month of this year at the Expresso Lane Coffee Shop on the Courthouse Square in downtown Newnan.  This tribute is sponsored by the Newnan-Coweta Art Association (NCAA), which places monthly themed exhibits of paintings by its artists on the walls of Espresso Lane. For the month of December the paintings placed there by NCAA will be those of this year's SCAVA Exhibit instead.  The Tribute to Barbara will be held on Thursday evening December 6 from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.   ALL of Barbara's friends (not just those in Coweta County) are invited to attend and to share with others their reminiscences of Barbara's contributions to the arts.

Barbara was an active member of NCAA for many years contributing her talents in various ways, including serving for several years as its delegate to the Newnan-Coweta Arts Council.  It was at her last contribution to NCAA, helping at its Second Juried Art Show several months ago at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County, that she collapsed and died shortly thereafter.

There are two very fine tributes to Barbara in print.  The Tribute by NCAA is at  www.newcaa.com/files/index.php?id=14.

The Tribute to Barbara given by the Southside Arts Agenda online news service issue for July 2, 2007 was the very first item covered in that issue.  It is shown below:

BARBARA SCRUGGS

Along with our friends in Grantville, we mourn the loss of a dear friend and contributor to the Southside ARTS Agenda, Mrs. Barbara Scruggs, in her 75th year.

We last spoke with Barbara on June 18th, the day before her sudden passing regarding the 'Artist Choice' traveling exhibit which she championed and organized.

We will miss her valued assistance, her creativity, but mostly her energy
Barbara Scruggs was not only a good artist but also a good organizer. She strongly supported the Newnan-Coweta Art Association (NCAA) which she served in various capacities including being its delegate to the the Newnan-Coweta Arts Council, where she served for a time as Secretary.  She was also a strong advocate of co-operation among the various Southside art associations for which reason she was very active in the Southern Crescent Alliance of Visual Artists, serving twice as its President (in 2004 and 2007).

Barbara will be missed; her passing is a grievous loss for the Coweta and Southside arts scene.
