Coweta Arts Tidbits The Successor To Newnan-Coweta Arts Council News Releases
Composed By: Forrest W. Schultz 770-583-3258 August 9, 2008 VOICES Launches Season on Sept. 6 at Wadsworth Auditorium in Newnan The Coweta arts community is excited by the recent announcement by VOICES Artistic Director Maria Pia Ugarte that this prestigious Southern Arc choral group will be launching its 2008-2009 season with a benefit concert at the Wadsworth Auditorium in Newnan. The Auditorium was named in honor of the famous Spoleto classical musician Charles Wadsworth for the many concerts he has held there in recent years to raise funds for the renovation of this building, which has meant a lot to him as a native of Newnan. This is the text of Ugarte's news release: VOICES TO HOLD CONCERT IN EARLY SEPTEMBER PEACHTREE CITY, GEORGIA – August 7, 2008: Voices will be holding a benefit concert this upcoming September 6, 2008 at The Wadsworth in Newnan. This production launches the recently announced two-year season in The Southern Arc, presenting Voices' usual eclectic combination of music. "This whole series has a mysterious quality to it. There is an abundance of haunting melodies that will most certainly be following you home!" explained Ms. Ugarte. The program combines soundtrack and musicals selections from "Cold Mountain," "Evita," "The Phantom of the Opera," "Oliver," & "Porgy and Bess;" classical evergreens such as Puccini's "O mio babbino caro" and Delibes' "Flower Duet from the opera Lakme; as well as a tribute of pieces made popular by Josh Groban, Celtic Woman, Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. Returning for its second appearance will be the solo female vocal group Zaphyra. Zaphyra was born as a result of the first Voices concert in 2006 and formally organized during 2007. "While working on the mixing of the recording of the 2006 Voices concert, I was drawn to a particular song, Sale ascende." explained Ms. Ugarte. "This is what triggered the idea of creating Zaphyra." The ages of the group range from 11 to 44. Original members Maria Pia Ugarte and Alison Chambers, have recently welcomed Megan Zerbe, Paige McCauley and Jill Safko to join the ensemble. "Each singer has a very different kind of voice and style. Each member is a unique strong individual performer and at the same time has the ability to combine in a group with a special quality and warmth." Zaphyra will be performing solo and ensemble pieces, including an a capella arrangement of "Somewhere" from West Side Story. The group recently finished recording a new version of "The Star Spangled Banner" that will be released as a maxi CD in the next few months. The Southern Nights Chorale -- a men's precision a cappella ensemble – joins Voices for the first time. Founded by and under the direction of J. D. Holmes, it is made up of singers from the South Metro Atlanta area. They actively perform in The Southern Arc and have also been heard at Turner Field singing the National Anthem as well as at the Governor's Mansion. "I heard about the Southern Nights Chorale and decided to approach their director to see if they would be interested in being part of Voices this season," explained Ms. Ugarte. "J. D. accepted and we are very excited about the collaboration." Also returning for a second year is young violinist Matthew Roberts. Roberts started playing the violin at the age of six. He is a talented young musician who really enjoys playing his instrument and has an unlimited future ahead of him. Hair design for Zaphyra will be done by Carlos Salon. "Imbedded in the concept of Voices, is the idea of fostering creative synergy among different channels within the community. Hair design is certainly an art form. I have known Carlos for several years, as well as his wife Julisa. They are both exceptional hair stylists." Carlos Salon is located on Highway 74 in Peachtree City and is proud to offer the community an exceptional quality of service. Another creative aspect that has become a characteristic of the Voices concerts is the wardrobe has been a key component and received many compliments last year. David's Bridal has responded very enthusiastically to being a part of Voices. "But expect surprises, as the dresses will most definitely have the Voices touch!" This first concert – as well as the two following events -- will help fund the full scale production in 2009. This initial, more intimate performance will be taking place at The Wadsworth in Newnan (25 Jefferson Street.) The 1930's Art Deco landmark -- listed on the National Register of Historic Places – was designed by noted Georgia architect R. Kennon Perry. "I learned of it through my friend and artistic colleague, writer Jeanne Chambers, one the founders of The Twilight Theater. I was very surprised that I had not heard of this place before. It is certainly worth a trip just to come and see this magnificent building, which has been recently restored." Gene Surber, award-winning historic architect, served as the consultant for its rehabilitation. "Rein Pirn, who designed the acoustics for Spivey Hall at Clayton College and State University in Morrow, developed the acoustical plan." Presale tickets are available at the Voices website, http://www.VoicesOnline.org. Doors open at 7:00 pm, with the performance starting at 7:30 pm. A petite silent auction will take place before the concert and during intermission. A Meet & Greet Reception will take place after the concert. Please visit the Voices website for continued updates and information about this and upcoming events. [Coweta Arts Tidbits] New Author Linda Jennings Coming to CABSE
Coweta Arts Tidbits The Successor To Newnan-Coweta Arts Council News Releases
Composed By: Forrest W. Schultz 770-583-3258 July 22, 2008
New Author Linda Jennings Coming to CABSE
Wrote Life Within The Veil To Show How To Live The Christian Life
In response to the burgeoning Coweta County literary arts scene a Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza (CABSE) was held last year to which all Coweta authors of a published book were invited. The CABSE will be held again this year, and at the same venue as last year -- the annual Grantville Day community festival, which will be held this year on Saturday September 27 and Sunday September 28 on Main Street in Grantville, which is located at Exit 35 on Interstate 85. The Book Signing Tables will open at 10 AM on Saturday and 12 Noon on Sunday.
One of the authors planning to attend the CABSE is Linda Jennings of Newnan, who says that she wrote her book Life Within The Veil, which was published last year, because she was "prompted by the Holy Spirit". Linda, who is a graduate of Pat Robertson's Regent University, has had experience in Christian pastoral work in Coweta County. She also is known for her Christian TV Talk Show "Tea With Maggie and Linda".
Jennings can be reached at her email address lajennings@charter.net, the CABSE Co-ordinator Forrest Schultz can be reached at schultz_forrest@yahoo.com or at 770-583-3258, and the Director of Grantville Day, Sandra Luttrell can be reached at 770-582-2147 or at sangalasands@aol.com.
The following information about Jennings book is verbatim from the website of her TV show, www.TeawithMaggieandLinda.com:
Book Summary
The moment our Lord took His last breath, some marvelous things happened. The earth shook, rocks split and graves opened. But the very first thing that happened was the tearing of the veil from top to bottom. The veil that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place was rent. Primary on the heart of God was the fact that a new dwelling place had just been opened up for you and me. From that moment on, you and I were called to live our lives within the Most Holy Place. But, in practical terms, exactly what does that mean? That's what Life within the Veil tells us. It's a supremely holy work. It's not for those who want to giggle and be entertained. It's for those who know there just has to be something more to church life than what they are presently experiencing. It's for those who are hungry for more of God. Several have said, "Life within the Veil" is a deep book, but it's so easy to read. The author meant it to be that way. Anyone can understand the words and everyone should want to respond with a deeper walk with their Lord. For far too long, the body of Christ has lived far below the fullness of the purposes of Calvary. Christ paid for us to dwell within this glorious place. Let us be the generation which decides to step within the veil and live our lives in the fullness for which Christ died.

[Coweta Arts Tidbits] Ballet Magnificat Presents The Scarlet Cord On Sept. 16 at Arts Centre
Coweta Arts Tidbits The Successor To Newnan-Coweta Arts Council News Releases
Composed By: Forrest W. Schultz 770-583-3258 July 21, 2008
Magnificat Ballet Presents The Scarlet Cord at Arts Centre on Sept. 16
One of the most sublime portions of Holy Writ is Mary's adoration, "My soul magnifies the Lord". The Latin translation begins with the verb, "magnificat", so that this prayer is often refered to as the "Magnificat". Thus we are not surprised to learn that the purpose of the Magnificat Ballet company is to magnify the Lord through their performances.
There will be an opportunity to see how they go about doing this when they come to the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County on September 16. The name of the work they will perform, The Scarlet Cord, also comes from Scripture: Joshua told Rahab to place a scarlet cord in the window of her house to prevent her household from being killed. The performance will begin at 7:00 PM.
Their website, www.balletmagnificat.com, provides the following info and pictures of this remarkable ballet:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inspired and loosely based on the Biblical account of Rahab, the ballet is set against the gray background of the communist Soviet Union. This newest Ballet Magnificat! production depicts the story of Rahab the harlot, party official Vladimir Ivanovich, and the undercover missionaries Aaron and Anna Grimes, as well as those pressed down by the iron fist of the Soviet government. This tale of betrayal, love, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice paints a portrait of an offering brought before our amazing Savior. Come witness this moving drama of a revolution – a human heart turning to the ultimate truth, Jesus Christ. Choreographer: Jiri Sebastian Voborsky

Christian Singer Kyle Matthews Coming to Arts Centre on August 18
During the past several decades there has been a great upsurge in performances by Christian singers. One of the most outstanding of these Christian singers, Kyle Matthews, will be coming to the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County on August 18 at 7 PM. The Centre has provided the following info on this songwriter and vocal artist:
In almost two decades of writing and performing his songs, Kyle Matthews has emerged as one of Christian music's most prolific song writers. Of his over 60 cuts by major artists of disparate genres, he has penned such well known songs as "If You Want Me To", recorded by Ginny Owens, "Everything and Nothing", recorded by Vince Gill, "One and the Same", recorded by CeCe Winans, and "God Forbid", recorded by Point of Grace, and "Been Thru the Water", recorded by Kyle. His song "We Fall Down", recorded most notably on a multi-platinum release by Donnie McClurkin, won numerous music industry awards, including the Dove Award for Traditional Gospel Song of the Year, the Stellar Award for Song of the Year, and ASCAP's 2002 Christian Song of the Year. His songs have been broadcast and performed in concerts around the world and have appeared on television shows such as the Oprah Winfrey show, as well as the BET and WB networks, among others. He is a 20004 alumnus of Leadership Music ( Nashville ). Kyle's itinerant, ecumenical ministry includes almost as many speaking engagements as concerts, because those opportunities allow him to blend his songs and storytelling with preaching and teaching. His music company, "See for Yourself Music", produces recordings, print music, and devotional materials which model Christian "edu-tainment" more than "entertainment". He has served as a teaching resource for both the Gospel Music Academy and the Samuel Project, a grant-funded mentoring program for students considering church-related vocations. Kyle also welcomes opportunities to teach creative writing and music in non-religious settings. Through a "Partners in the Arts" grant in Virginia , for example, he has taught songwriting and creative writing in public schools. But Kyle's music is only a reflection of his deeper commitment to sound theology and spiritual health. Part of his mission is to motivate people to serve others in a way that allows them to meet Christ in "the least of these". In that endeavor, he is a recruiter for the Wherry Project, a transitional housing ministry near Nashville , TN , which combines the provision of renovated, low-cost shelter with programs for child development and adult support groups on a variety of issues. Kyle also serves on the board of directors for Hand Up Africa, a non-profit organization sending road paving and farming equipment to the people of Uganda, and he is a child sponsor and sponsor recruiter for Compassion International. In the course of his travels, Kyle lends temporary support to other deserving ministries and organizations, and he is an active part of a local congregation. The "Helping Others" page of his website is a resource for people interested in learning about, contributing to and participating in some of these helping ministries. Kyle lives in Nashville with his wife Susan and children Emily and Christopher, writing for Universal Music Group and traveling many weekends to perform and speak. In April of 2006, his Alma Mater, Furman University , awarded him the Richard Furman Baptist Heritage Award recognizing "a graduate who reflects Baptist ideals by thinking critically, living compassionately and making life changing commitments."
For further info about the concert one can contact the Centre at 770-254-2787. The Centre is located on Lower Fayetteville Road several miles east of Newnan.

Jerry Yates Coming to Grantville Days Crosstie Festival
Award-Winning Southern Country Gospel Musician Performs on Sept. 28
It would take a bit of time just to list all the awards won recently by Jerry Yates of Newnan. And it would take some time to try to explain his unique musical blend, which really cannot be appreciated until one has had the pleasure of hearing him singing and playing his guitar. There will be an opporunity to do so at this year's "Grantville Day", which is being called the Grantville Days Crosstie Festival. Yates will be performing on Sunday afternoon September 28 from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM. The Grantville Day Planning Committee is to be commended for bring someone of this calibre to their community festival.
Information about Yates is available on these websites:
