By now just about everyone who is au courant with the Southside music scene knows that the Masterworks Chorale is the resident community chorus of the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County. What some may not know is that the Chorale was actually formed (in September 2003) before the Centre even opened (in April 2004).

The Masterworks Chorale is also known for its great Director, Kathy Bizarth, who has been the Fine Arts Chair and director of choral music at Newnan High School for 22 years, and for its great Accompanist, David Kinrade, who has been the Minister of Music at the First United Methodist Church of Newnan for 23 years, which involves overseeing ten choirs.
The Centre is located on Lower Fayetteville Road several miles east of Newnan. For ticket information, call the Centre at 770-254-2787. |

Coweta Arts Tidbits The Successor To Newnan-Coweta Arts Council News Releases Composed By: Forrest W. Schultz 770-583-3258 October 8, 2008 Twilight Theatre To Perform The Civil War at the Wadsworth in November
Famous Play/Oratorio Directed By Tony Peregoy
The Wadsworth in Newnan is getting ever more recognition as a great venue for performances. The next event by a prestigious group of performing artists will be the presentation of a play which has gained in popularity over the years, The Civil War oratorio, by the award winning Fayette-based Twilight Theatre Troupe directed by Tony Peregoy. The Vocal Director will be Ellie Shelton; and the Music Director Laini Benefield and the number of songs will be far too numerous to list! This play is so involved that a special section of the Twilight website is devoted to it. http://www.thetwilighttheatre.com/The_Civil_War/index.html. There are many pictures of scenes as well as discussions.
The play is described as a "dramatical musical event" in the form of a "moving song cycle" about the events and feelings of this traumatic period of our nation's history. The songs and the action covers not just the battles of the war but the entire lives of the people. The focus is on what the war meant to the people. There is no attempt to draw any conclusions or make any political statements.
There will be four performances: November 14, 15, 21, and 22, each of these nights beginning at 8 PM. Tickets will be $15 for general admission, and $12 for students, senior citizens, and military personnel. Tickets can be purchased online via a link on the Twilight website, www.TheTwilightTheatre.com or at Scott's Bookstore on the Courthouse Square in downtown Newnan.
The Civil War is a dramatic musical event about the lives of people who lived during the single most defining period in American history, and for whom the war brought pride, sorrow, faith, freedom, despair, and death. It feeds upon the emotions in all of us and brings the true tragedy of war home. The play is a moving song-cycle which weaves an emotional tapestry from our nation's history. The show draws on letters and speeches, and uses projections including actual photographs from the war. It is staged as a musical oratorio, leaving a traditional book behind. All of this brings the music and the subject material into sharp focus.

Highly Acclaimed Ensemble Hails From Athens
The Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of Coweta County has by now become well known for offering a great variety of high quality arts events. They recently announced a concert by the highly acclaimed Georgia Guitar Quartet on November 13 at 7 PM.
Formed in 1996 and hailing from Athens, Georgia, the ensemble maintains an active concert schedule, performing in a variety of venues, ranging from concert halls to popular music clubs. A typical GGQ concert will feature moving performances coupled with enthusiastic audience interaction. Passion, flair, sensitivity, and humor are characteristic qualities of every GGQ concert. In addition to performing classical music from the Renaissance to the present day, The Quartet explores other styles such as jazz, bluegrass, ragtime and Celtic music. While expanding the catalog of music for four guitars by arranging pre-existing works, the Quartet has a profound interest in the creation and performance of modern music. As a result of their diverse repertoire, the group appeals to a wide range of music lovers. The Quartet performs regularly throughout the US. One review of their 1999 Piccolo Spoleto Festival performance in Charleston, South Carolina, described the concert as "a dazzling display of technical prowess, versatile programming, and audience rapport." In 2001, the Quartet was invited by Christopher Parkening to perform as quest artists in his twenty-seventh annual master class in Bozeman, Montana. The ensemble's recordings have each won great critical acclaim. Their debut CD was ranked among the top ten Athens albums of 1998 by Flagpole Magazine. Two new albums of the Quartet's original arrangements and compositions will be released this year on Solponticello Records The Centre is located on Lower Fayetteville Road several miles east of Newnan. Coweta Arts Tidbits
The Successor To Newnan-Coweta Arts Council News Releases
Composed By: Forrest W. Schultz 770-583-3258 October 3, 2008 Website Created For the Movie Black Warrior's Curse
One of the most interesting things ever to happen at a meeting of the Coweta Writers Group was when its Guest Speaker Joe Harless announced that he had written a novel, Black Warrior's Curse. It was published soon afterward
Then it was back in the news again when it came to light that the film rights had been purchased by a Hollywood movie producer. When I excitedly told him about this, a cynic replied with a huff, "That just means the producer has the RIGHT to make the movie, it does not mean that he will do so!!".
Well, the cynic was wrong because a website has just been created for the making of the film. Here it is -- There is not much on it yet -- it has just been created. Here is what you will see -- the name of the man doing the Screenplay (Terry Chase Chenowith), the name of the novelist (Joe Harless) and the names of the Producers (Jack Robinson and Terry Chase Chenowith). The Year is given as 2009 and the Genre is Drama. ![]() Black Warrior's Curse
Screenplay Terry Chase Chenowith Novel Joe H. Harless Producer Jack Robinson and Terry Chase Chenowith All the other categories on the page are left blank, except for the Technical Details section, which says this very interesting thing about Location: technical details
That is interesting -- the Filming Location is GEORGIA, not Alabama, where the story takes place!! Will the city be Newnan?? Stay tuned to find out!! or visit the website for yourself! |
