Childrens Book Illustrator Joyce Revoir  Writes Little Garden Stories

Will Autograph Book CD, & DVD at CABSE in September

Nationally known children's book illustrator Joyce Revoir has lived in Coweta County for some time and has been involved in art activities with the Newnan-Coweta Art Association and the Images Gallery in Moreland for some time but not until just now did she write her own book, which is entitled Little Garden Stories.  The information from the website www.littlegardenstories.com provided below tells the story behind this combination Book-DVD-CD.  To really understand this, however, I believe you need to actually see how it works.  An opportunity to do this as well as meet the author, and obtain autographed copies will be provided next month at the Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza (CABSE) which Revoir will be attending along with 19 other Coweta County authors.  The CABSE will be held from 10 AM through 5 PM on Saturday September 15 and from 12 Noon through 5 PM on Sunday September 16 as a special feature of the New Grantville Days Festival.  Additional information on Revoir is found on her website www.joycerevoir.com.  Info on CABSE is available from Forrest Schultz at 770-583-3258 or schultz_forrest@yahoo.com.  Info on the New Grantville Days Festival is available at http://grantvilleday.tripod.com.

GARDEN NOTES
from the Artist
Hi Everyone!
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you had a chance to preview our new movie: Little Garden Stories. It celebrates learning with stories, music and craft-time for kids.
As a children's book illustrator, I've had the privilage to work some great projects. Garden is my first original production and I had lots of help along the way. My good friends at Family Tree Media created the award wining babyfaith videos and they have been my mentors! Jess Stainbrook was one the first people I shared the movie with. Thier producer Mark Burr has worked on Baby Einstein and The Safe Side. He has been a great help and has a great eye for what works for children's videos!
The art and animation was created by me using a laptop and Flash as my primary software. The photography is images I took and includes places like Dunaway Gardens to my own backyard in Newnan, Georgia. I am always taking pictures of flowers!
Garden music started with my friend, Joey Agee. His wife was one of my daughter's teachers. Joey wrote some jammin tunes with my lyrics and recorded everything at his studio. We found wonderful Georgia musicians to play. We are proud of the local talent and I have to say "Georgia Rocks!" Our singers, Dana Widener and Jeremy Williams are local worship leaders and busy parents. Their voices are great and I hope we hear more recordings from them!
The process has taken over a year and a half and it involved the whole family with my daughters creating Craft-Time fun. The stories were inspired by time spent in our backyard. We moved to Georgia from Colorado and fireflies were something new to my girls. They became the star of a story I made up. We always make up stories at our house and these had great potential.
I am thankful for the MANY friends and family who helped me build my dream. I hope it will inspire you to share creative time with your young artist! Be sure to check out the resource pages for creative teaching tools. My girls came up with some fun SING ALONG MOTIONS to all the songs! You can print them out for FREE! I hope to see you this spring and summer at a Craft-Time visit!
Keep Growing!!!
Joyce Revoir

You are invited to Celebrate Learning
with Stories, Music and Craft-Time for Kids!

Little Garden Stories the first Read-Along DVD
and Sing-Along CD for Children
Joyce Revoir Illustration & Design and FamliyTree Media present Little Garden Stories, the first Read-Along DVD and Sing-Along CD for children ages 2-8. The Little Firefly and The Noisy Cricket star in their own animated, musical stories.
For her first movie, Joyce Revoir was awarded a 2007 Telly Award for non-broadcast, children's audience. "Little Garden Stories™" which features "The Little Firefly" and "The Noisy Cricket" is the first read-along DVD and sing-along CD for children ages 2-8 to celebrate learning with stories, music and craft-time.

Joyce grew up in Destin, Florida and her creative career has taken her to three major markets: Nashville, Denver and Atlanta. Since opening her design studio in 1998, she has illustrated more than fourteen children's books including "Sam's Rainbow" by Grammy® award-winning recording artist, Sandi Patty, "The Legend of The Christmas Kiss" (Howard Publishing) and "Alpha-kidZ™" by Cindy G. Foust. As former art director for Sparrow Records/EMI-CMG, Joyce created packaging for some of Christian music's biggest names including Steven Curtis Chapman, FFH, Wes King and Switchfoot. Clients included World Vision, LifeWay, and MOPS International.

After meeting award-winning producer, Mark Burr, best known for his work with Baby Einstein and for co-creating babyfaith, Joyce began to pursue animation. "Then soon after, we moved to Atlanta, and my daughters saw fireflies for the first time. Their delightful reaction was the inspiration for the stories," Joyce explains. Designing for a child's eye with a parent's perspective, Joyce's daughter's contributed ideas to the movie, Joyce combined her music and book publishing experience to develop, "Little Garden Stories." She uses signature bright colors and narrations with original songs, co-written by Joyce and Joey Agee of Newnan, GA. Agee recorded the music with local musicians. The engaging characters, motion and color quickly capture attention, stimulating imagination of children as they sing and dance along to the lively, thirty-minute presentation.

In the first story, a firefly dreams of becoming a big star when an angel shares the lesson, "Just shine where you are and let love be your light." A cricket then teaches the value of harmony by inspiring the garden to sing and work together. A silly sing-along with a ladybug and a craft-time segment with Joyce's daughters complete the video.

Upon completion, Joyce shared the movie with Burr and his business partner, Emmy® award-winning producer, Jess Stainbook. The filmmakers coached Joyce and added the release to their company's catalogue at www.babyfaith.com.

Little Garden Stories DVD/CD are also available at littlegardenstories.com, foxsalescompany.com and Atlanta-area stores including Scott's Book Store, Ansley's Attic, Hastings, Shenanigan's Toys, Peachtree City Christian Church and Images Gallery for $17.95. Melon Boys Author "Michael George" Coming to CABSE

It would take way too much time to list all the interesting things about the Coweta County authors who will be participating in the first-ever Coweta County Book Authors Extrvaganza (CABSE) next month, so I shall limit my remarks to the one under discussion here.  Among the twenty authors who have so far accepted the invitation to attend, Mike Ottensmeier is the only one of them who writes under a pseudonym, namely (pardon the pun) Michael George.  He is very excited about his first novel,
The Melon Boys, which was just published in June.  He intends to share his experiences with his fellow authors in the Coweta Writers Group at their next several meetings, but for the generals public the best place to meet him and get an autographed copy of his book is at the CABSE, which will be held from 10 AM through 5 PM on Saturday September 15 and from 12 Noon through 5 PM on Sunday September 16 as a special feature of the New Grantville Days Festival on Main Street in Grantville, which is a small city in southern Coweta County located at Exit 35 on I-85.

Information on this novel and author is available at his website www.themelonboys.com.  Info on the CABSE is available from its Co-ordinator Forrest Schultz at 770-583-3258 or schultz_forrest@yahoo.com.  Grantville Day info is available from http://grantvilleday.tripod.com.

[Coweta Arts Tidbits] Kennedy's SF Novel Recommended for Film

Novel By Coweta Author Vickie Kennedy Recommended For Film

Probably the most excited author in Coweta County these days is Vickie Kennedy of Newnan, who has just learned that her excellent science fiction novel The Hidden Truth of Cytech's Randal Forty is finally getting the attention it deserves:  it has been recommended for film by the noted Reel Talk critic Betty Jo Tucker.  Kennedy has already won an EPPIE Award for the book but there has so far been little other recognition.  Kennedy is a very busy woman because she not only writes novels, she also runs the Writers Block workshop and the etreasures publishing company (both based in Newnan).  Her science fiction novel will be one of four of her books she will be autographing at the Coweta County Book Signing Extravaganza next month, which would be a good time to meet her and acquire her books.

Here is Betty Jo Tucker's article:

Screenplay Worthy
by Betty Jo Tucker

In keeping with my practice of notifying filmmakers about books that simply cry out to be movies, I'm pleased to add The Hidden Truth of Cytech's Randall Forty to the list. Author Vickie Kennedy fills this sci-fi romantic suspense novel with action images so exciting, they would surely explode on screen! She also endows her leading characters with personality plus, especially the heroine Dixie Freeman, a homicide detective chosen by the Federal government for a secret time-travel expedition.
Dixie is a tough, feisty woman who fights hard not to take this dangerous trip, then falls head over heels for Randall Forty shortly after she arrives in the year 2250. Randall just happens to be the handsome hunk heading up New York's police department -- as well as the perfect man for Dixie. Or is he?
I can see the casting of these two roles creating quite a stir in Hollywood! My preferences? Johnny Depp and Ashley Judd. They would be perfect in the sizzling love scenes between Randall and Dixie. (Of course, I think Johnny Depp should be in every movie!)
Suspense builds as Dixie and Randall come together not only as a romantic couple but also as partners battling crime. Randall must defeat Xonn, the villain behind organized crime, and Dixie wants to help him. But danger lurks for both protagonists. To complicate things even more, Dixie worries about leaving Randall when her time-travel mission is completed, and Randall ponders over how to tell Dixie his secret.
The Hidden Truth of Cytech's Randall Forty contains elements reminiscent of both Blade Runner and Kate and Leopold, two of my favorite films. Perhaps that's one reason I enjoyed this sci-fi novel so much. Also, if made into a movie, filmmakers could go wild here with futuristic sets, holograms, hover crafts, androids, cyborgs, computers, and so forth. I can't help thinking it would be a big hit!
For more information about The Hidden Truth of Cytech's Randall Forty, go to the publishers website at www.etreasurespublishing.com.

Man In Muddy Creek Author John Hickman Coming to CABSE

John Hickman of Newnan was one of the participants in the Writers Symposium held in Moreland in 2003 sponsored by the Erskine Caldwell Museum.  He spoke of the novels he had written but at that time none of them had yet been published.  Well, Hickman has been  flying high ever since the first one was published in December 2006,
Man In Muddy Creek.  He is very proud of his book and is devoting considerable effort to publicizing it so that others can enjoy it too.  He firmly believes in book signings so that it should come as no surprise that he will be an enthusiastic participant in the Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza (CABSE), which will be a special feature of the New Grantville Days Festival held the third weekend in September.  All Coweta authors of a published book have been invited; twenty have so far agreed to attend with the total expected to be about 22.  The CABSE will be held on Main Street in Grantville from
10 AM through 5 PM on Saturday September 15 and from 12 Noon through 5 PM on Sunday September 16.  The CABSE will provide the public with an opportunity to meet Coweta County's authors and to acquire an autographed copies of their books.  The CABSE is unique because there has never before been a book signing to which all Coweta authors have been invited.  Information on CABSE is available from its Co-ordinator, Forrest Schultz, at 770-583-3258 or schultz_forrest@yahoo.com.  Information on the New Grantville Days Festival is available at their website http://grantvilleday.tripod.com.  (The New Grantville Days Festival was formerly called "Grantville Day".)

James and Sybil Laurent Participating in CABSE

James and Sybil Laurent of Newnan are best known for their art works and their musical performances.  But these are not their only talents -- they are also writers (and not just of music).  They are active members of the Coweta Writers Group and they will be two of the participating authors in the Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza in September.  James will be there to autograph his book on guitar playing and Sybil will be signing her cookbook Pumpkin Bread and Bologna Too.  (They are also very concerned about health and dietary matters.)

James is best known for the famous painting he did last year of the Black Pearl.  Info on this and other art-related accomplishments can be found on the Laurents' website www.mystore.cc/stores/sybilsartattic

[Coweta Arts Tidbits] Flint Gallery Rated #1 in Southern Arc

Coweta   arts   tidbits
The  Successor  To  Newnan-Coweta  Arts  Council  News  Releases

Composed By:  Forrest W. Schultz  770-583-3258  schultz_forrest@yahoo.com

Lifestyles Readers Rate Flint the #1 Art Gallery in Southern Arc

On Page 10 of the July issue of Lifestyles magazine the Editor Monica Gaddy provides a helpful and lively discussion of the rating system of various things by their readers -- and she strongly stresses that it is the READERS, not the staff of the magazine that is doing the rating.  On page 48 is shown the result of the rating for art galleries:  the Flint Gallery at Panoply in downtown Newnan is rated as the Best Art Gallery in the Southern Arc.  Information on the gallery is available on its website at www.flintgallery.com

What is very interesting about this is that the Flint Gallery is definitely not your usual art gallery.  The paintings displayed in the Flint Gallery are found on the walls of the showroom and workroom of the Panoply Interior Design and Home Decor.  And this is not the only such gallery in Newnan.  The walls of the Embassy Row Coffee House are used to display the paintings of the monthly themed shows of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association.  And the art gallery at the Arts Centre is inside of what was designed to be a performing arts centre.  So, strictly speaking, Coweta County does not actually have an art gallery, as that term is normally used.  Therefore it is especially noteworthy that Flint was chosen as the #1 gallery although it is by no means surprising because the paintings hanging in it are first rate and are situated in a great environment.

Performance of "America The Great" Play Overcomes Last Minute Obtacle

It was time for the Grantville Playmakers Fourth of July play "America The Great" to be performed and David Wilson, the Playwright/Director/Producer, was frantic because one of the main characters had not shown up and no one knew why.  He finally called in a substitute because "the play must go on".  Ironically, there was something appropriate about this because George Washington  had to overcome similar obstacles in the Revolutionary War -- he too was confronted with "no-shows", e.g.  troops which were promised but did not arrive, but he persevered, thereby embodying the "Spirit of '76".

The resulting delay in the performance was filled with some appropriate impromptu humor.  A man in the audience got up and told a George Washington joke.  Then Wilson recounted a recent episode in which, while he was dressed in his George Washington costume, he rearended a car while driving in Newnan.  The other driver was shocked to see George Washington emerging from the driver's seat of the offending vehicle, and you can imagine the laughs of the insurance company when they found out.  One more interesting day in the life of Coweta County !  Wilson decided, as he himself stated, not to let the no-show get him down but to follow the motto:  If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.  Actually, it was worth the delay to hear this really funny true story.

There has already been plenty of articles published about the plot of the play so there is no need to repeat it here.  What does require comment is how amazingly appropriate Grantville's Meadows log cabin (and the surrounding grass and trees) was for the "stage" of this play.  Several scenes in the play occur in front of a house -- there was no need to create a stage set for that; the cabin itself was the set.  Most of the scenes occur in a sylvan setting, which again required no set construction; nature provided that.  The magnificent costumes worn by the cast were especially impressive against this natural background, which made it seem that the actions in the play were really happening rather than being acted.  The only thing which needed construction was the curtain, which was composed of several shower curtains sewn together side by side with the loops sliding along a rope tied to two trees in front of the cabin.

After the play Wilson announced that instead of staging another Barbara Nolan comic vampire drama, his Halloween play this year will deal with the notorious John Wallace, who committed the infamous "Murder in Coweta County" recounted by Margaret Anne Barnes in her book by that title.  Colby Doler distributed announcements about the World War II play "We Are Brothers", which will performed in December.

Anne Turner to Autograph "Good Days" Novel at CABSE

Anne Turner first came to the attention of the Coweta arts scene in 2003 when her first novel was published, She's Had Some Good Days, about a group of contemporary African-American young women.  She enjoys talking with people about her story and conducting autograph parties, so it is not surprising that she has accepted the invitation to participate in the first-ever Coweta Authors Book Signing Extravaganza (CABSE).  Eighteen other Coweta writers of published books have also agreed to attend.  This CABSE will give the public an opportunity to meet Coweta's authors and acquire authographed copies of their books.

Anne, who lives in Grantville, will not have far to travel to the CABSE because it will be held on Main Street in Grantville as a special feature of the New Grantville Days Festival on the third weekend in September.  The CABSE will be held from 10 AM through 5 PM on Saturday September 15 and from 12 Noon through 5 PM on Sunday September 16.  Information on the CABSE is available from its Co-ordinator Forrest Schultz at 770-583-3258 or by email at schultz_forrest@yahoo.com.  Information on the New Grantville Days Festival is available from its Chairman, Sandra Luttrell at 770-583-9013 or sangalsands@aol.com
